Wedding Dance

Normally, we call it march in. I feel wedding can be a very special one when the wedding couple dances into the ballroom rather than the normal march in.

My cousin had his wedding and surprisingly, there was this segment when he danced with his bride.

The dance served as an entertainment for us too.

Soon after, other guests joined them and we had our first dance too. The aisle was packed with dancing couples.

Even my aunties and uncles who are already in their sixties joined in too.

Rather an amazing sight to see. One of the very few in Singapore's wedding indeed.

If you are planning your wedding and have a special piece of music for your all important first dance, you may want to sign up your very first wedding dance lesson in a dance studio.

Through a course of private lessons, the dance teacher may be able to customise the dance lesson for you.

As you know, we all have different calibre. For me, I'm sure I'm not a good dancer because I can't coordinate the dancing steps well.

However, it is always worth a try.

At the dance studio, the experienced teachers can choreograph an individual dance to fit your music perfectly.

There are different type of wedding dances:

1. traditional Waltz,

2. sexy Argentine Tango

3. passionate Rumba

Dancing isn't as easy as what it seemed. We all saw from television programs which show dancing competition and how graceful the dancers were.

They were dancing as one. They were moving their bodies as one.

However, do you know they may have learnt and practice for ten over years just to be able to qualify for the dancing contest?

But, wedding couples do not have so much time.

Whatever you do, if you are going to dance at your wedding, just enjoy yourself and I'm sure all the guests will feel very proud of how happy the wedding couple is!

How Do I Become A Music Video Dancer?

You see the dancers on TV dancing behind Britney or Justin Timberlake. You're inspired to take up dancing so that you can become just like your idols. And you find that pretty soon, you wouldn't mind being up there yourself dancing with your very idols.

Sounds cool doesn't it? Dancing in music videos or doing backing dancing is the dream of most aspiring dancers and if you're reading this probably yours as well. After all when you've danced in a music video, that's when you know you've made it, right? But how do you actually do it and find yourself on TV screens across the country?

Well there are a variety of ways. Some of them super glamorous such as being spotted by a very intelligent scout who obviously knows talent when they see it and says that's you.

If this happens to you, congratulations, you've truly had it made. But for the rest of the people out there, there are ways to appear in a music video that are within your control. Being scouted is generally the exception rather than the rule.

The most common route is to go and find a good agent or agency who will find dance auditions for you. Most top dance jobs come through agencies who will put you forward for jobs that match your skills and attributes.

The first rule of thumb when applying for dance agencies is to make sure you're good enough. There is no point in auditioning for agencies if you've just stumbled into the industry and just picked up 1 or 2 dance moves from a dance class. Auditions are tough and you'll need to be good to go through.

Different agencies work differently. Most will ask you to send through your CV and professional pictures. If they like the look of you and what you have to offer they may offer you a place on their agency immediately. Especially if you've done a lot of high-profile work or are otherwise a well-known dancer.

It's more than likely though that most agencies will invite you to an audition to become represented by their agency. There are often many dancers at these auditions, especially for the well known agencies where it's not unusual to have several hundred auditionees.

If you do well at the audition they may then decide to take you on. And then they'll start putting you forward for work and sending you to auditions where you're auditioning for specific jobs such as music videos.

There are some agencies which will insist that you do not need any experience. You should be cautious with these agencies. By all means have a look to see what they have to offer, but exercise special caution. Many operate on the basis that you give them some money to get a place on their agency books, and then they won't send you on any auditions at all. Generally you should not pay to join an agency, if you do make sure they have a good record and send their people to good auditions.

There will also sometimes be open auditions and castings which means that you do not need to be with any agency and anyone is free to attend the audition. Open auditions can be very packed, but if you don't have an agent yet then you'll have to go to these auditions to start building up your CV and if you want to find work. They can be advertised in newspapers, websites and notice boards.

So all in all, it is possible to succeed and get work without being represented by an agent or agency, but a good agency can help your career tremendously by sending you out on a lot of quality music video auditions which can only be attended via an agency.

Ryan Heddik has enjoyed a successful dance career dancing on TV numerous times and is the author of the groundbreaking e-book' Dance In A Pop Video.' DJ Equipment Prices

Music makes the world go round and people would lead monotonous lives were it not for this great gift. Music does not need to be dissected and comprehended to be appreciated. It simply carries people off in rhythm and melody to a land where the imagination rules and the laws of this world are no longer applicable.

Music can be enjoyed in many forms. Some people choose to sing, others choose to play an instrument, and yet others bring all other forms of music together to entertain a crowd. The last category is at times, referred to as disc jockeys or DJs for short and their job is perhaps the toughest of the lot. Not only do they require a deep understanding of music and its various forms, but they also need to be aware of the popular demand. A DJ's job is highly technical. There is a large variety of sensitive electronic equipment that DJs must learn to handle efficiently if they are to be successful. These machines are generally very expensive and new models come out every day so what was state-of-the-art yesterday becomes quite redundant in a week's time. DJs have to be savvy about the latest offerings on the market and know the best prices for all these products.

Basic single turntables for beginners start at about $100 and with increase in professional level, quality and size, the price can go up to a thousand dollars. CD players are generally more expensive although they are available at every electronic store. The average price can range between $200 and $2000 depending upon output and features. Mixers again vary in quality and utility. Professional that cater to a large crowds need advanced models which can cost as much as $2500 whereas amateurs just getting their feet wet can make do with cheap ones worth about $100. Accessories such as lighting, fog machine, and studio equipment are necessary only when people wish to stick to DJing as a life-long profession. Even then, such investment should be made only when people are certain of their positions in the music industry. If all this seems too expensive, people could start off with computer programs and downloads and work their way up to professional equipment.

Mp3 Suite Review - Where To Get Cheap Mp3 Music Downloads?

Have you been looking for a place to get cheap Mp3 music downloads? You may have stumbled across a website called Mp3 Suite that claims to allow users unlimited downloads. Is there really such a great thing like unlimited music downloads? Being a huge music fan, I had to find out the truth about acquiring music online and also to find out what people thought of Mp3 Suite.

1. What Are The Best Ways To Acquire Music Files Today?

The 3 main ways would be to buy music CDs, buy songs and albums separately for their individual costs, or to join a one time payment fee membership site that offers unlimited downloads. I personally prefer the last 2 methods over buying music CDs, and I will explain my reasons below.

2. Lost Your Mp3 Files?

If you lose your music CD, you would have lost the songs inside them forever. However, if you were to buy them from online stores or to download from membership sites, you would be able to recover them because the stores would hold records of your purchases.

3. What Are The Other Advantages Of Acquiring Mp3 Online?

Online music is much cheaper to acquire. I personally use a membership site now (called Mp3suite) to download all my songs for no extra costs. Due to the physical nature of music CDs, they would cost more than digitally downloaded files.

Online music is also much easier and convenient to buy and store. Instead of having to go to a physical store and having to deal with CD covers and cases, you can now immediately download them over the internet and store them digitally, using up no additional physical space in your home.

Is the Mp3 Suite a scam site? Visit http://www.top-review.org/mp3-suite.htm to learn more about Mp3 Suite, or Click Here to see Mp3 Suite!

The Value of Excellence in Performance - Lessons From Jazz

Folk wisdom holds that we use about 10% of our potential in a lifetime. New scientific research suggests the percentage is dramatically worse we use a mere 1/10,000th of our capabilities over the course of our lives. What a waste!

Can you imagine the benefit that you would contribute if you developed the capacity to use just 1% more of your talents to achieve what matters most to you? Is 10% too big a reach for you? I think not.

Among my most provocative teachers in the field of performance potential are the jazz musicians with who I work in my speaking and seminar business. They are masters at bringing their unique forms of excellence together to generate value for their audiences. They are passionate about increasing their potential to perform by constantly exploring new possibilities for achieving their purpose.

Why Jazz?

Warren Bennis is one of the worlds most influential writers on leadership and performance. In the mid-1990s, he had a significant change of mind. Before, his favourite image for a leader was the conductor of a symphony orchestra, blending the talents of accomplished performers according to a detailed and carefully crafted score. After, he realized that a jazz group was a better image for leadership and performance.

Excellence in performance in a constantly changing environment, he realized, was about improvisation, and that is what jazz musicians did best. They embraced change as opportunity, not threat. They shared leadership according to talent and the needs of the performance. They greeted surprise as a chance to test their talents and dance to forms of music yet to be heard, generating new value through their exploration of new possibilities. And they recognized, as sax great Cannonball Adderley once said, that there were no mistakes, only opportunities to learn.

Five Key Lessons from Jazz

Here are five the key lessons from the wisdom and workings of jazz about building your capacity to generate value through your unique excellence in performance. They form an acronym for VALUE:

Voicing

Aspiring

Learning

Utilizing

Encouraging.

Voicing

Your voice is unique. No one else has what you have to contribute in the style you have to deliver it. Your voice develops through the blending of your passions, talents, needs, and principles. Jazz musicians, pianist Walter Bishop Jr. once observed, learn in a three-step process: they imitate, assimilate, then innovate. They learn their craft from the masters, trying to imitate their sound. Then they take little bits of things from different people and weld them into their own style. Finally, they imagine how they can take the music to where it has never gone before and do it. That is when they generate their authentic excellence in performance. As jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus once said, Im trying to play the truth of what I am. The reason its difficult is because Im changing all the time. You can meet the same challenges of improvisation with your unique voice in your chosen field of contribution.

Aspiring

You can survive by simply coping with the messes of the past and the present. But you will not thrive unless you focus the energy of your unique voice on new possibilities in the future. Jazz musicians exhibit a fascinating respect for tradition blended with a passion for innovation. They are constantly trying to imagine new ways of using their voices, to do new things with old melodies and techniques, to improvise on old ideas to stimulate new possibilities and achieve new results. They aspire to do better. Trumpet master Miles Davis said that he always asked his groups to play their best and then play above that. It was then, he believed, that great music happened. Excellence in performance is the same. It is achieved when we contribute our best and then more.

Learning

Learning requires listening. Band leader Duke Ellington once said that the most important instrument in jazz was the human ear. Excellence in performance arises when all the members of the band listen to what they are each contributing to their common purpose. It arises when they all imagine how they can use their voices to create the best result through a carefully coordinated effort. Jazz musicians are strong individualists, confident and even jealous of their own unique voice. But they choose to listen to, learn from, and cooperate with each other to produce something they know they cannot achieve on their own. They are genuine life-long and collaborative learners. Excellence in performance requires that you too constantly listen and learn from each other.

Utilizing

All that voicing, aspiring, and learning means little if you do not choose to utilize them to contribute to a broader purpose than your own pleasure. Jazz musicians thrive on their audiences. Duke Ellington saw his audiences as an integral part of his performance. The special moments for Ellington came when he and his orchestra, which he considered to be his instrument, felt the audiences appreciation building, responded positively to it, and utilized their passions and talents to create new heights of meaningful experience for everyone involved. Excellence in performance requires the positive utilization of your unique brilliance in the service of others.

Encouraging

Human beings are designed to collaborate. However alone you may feel at times, you belong to a species that thrives only in community. The whole dynamic and flow of excellence in performance depends on how well you choose to use your unique capacities to encourage excellence in performance in others. Jazz pianist Monty Alexander usually performs in a trio. At its best, he has observed, trio playing is a situation in which participants willingly support each other. Each player brings virtuosity, optimism, mutual respect, good will, and the desire to make it feel good. If we encourage each other in the alignment of all of those elements, we can create excellence in performance.

Generating VALUE through Excellence in Performance

When jazz musicians get into the flow of a great improvisation, they say they are swinging. Canadian jazz master Oscar Peterson told an interviewer that swing is a deep feeling, an emotion. When you are swinging, he continued, you have really gotten into it, really gone deep. When jazz musicians blend passion and talent to create VALUE, they are expressing their voices, reaching for their aspirations, learning from each other, utilizing their brilliance, and encouraging each other to play their best and then play above that. For them, this is Xcellence in performance.

Imagine, then, how beneficial it would be for you:

to discover 10% more of your unique voice

to elevate your aspirations by 10%

to learn 10% more about what matters most to you

to utilize 10% more of your capacity to use your voice to serve others

to spend 10% more time encouraging others to use their brilliance to get into the swing of contribution.

Aligning all those factors will generate excellence in performance in any field, not only for yourself, but also for all those within your circles of influence. The results will delight everyone.

Legend Vega Releasing New Pop CD

Legend Vega is scheduled to release her newest CD this summer, Personal Space. Fans characterize Legend's style as a cross between Mariah Carey and a female version of Ricky Martin. She was born under the lights of Broadway in New York City but raised to the beat of Salsa and Merengue on the hot sands of Puerto Rico. Legend Vega is an experienced singer, songwriter, and model. She has just finished recording her newest CD with all of her own material. Her mainstream pop style and her Latin background make her an excellent crossover artist for the U.S. market. Her album features a broad mix of pop music recorded in English but with many Latin influences.

Legend has sung in a variety of venues from Caribbean resorts to outdoor festivals, and even on Broadway. She has performed with famous artists such as Elton John as an opening act at the Conquistador. On Broadway she performed as the lead vocalist in Tony and Tinas Wedding where she sang 32 songs nightly under director Larry Pellegrini. She has also exhibited her vocal skills as a duet partner and backup singer on various CDs for other artists.

She has also been very involved in the arrangements of each of the songs on her new album. She has completed a multitude of songs in a wide variety of styles (Pop, Rock, Romantic Ballads, Salsa, etc.)

What I really love about singing is being able to reach into someones soul and touch their life in a special way. By writing my own music, I feel that I can do this even better its as if I am having a very personal and intimate conversation with each of my listeners. -- Legend

Legend has an energetic and alluring on-stage presence as a dancer. She has performed concerts in styles ranging from classical ballet to Brazilian samba. She has performed solo dance shows and sang with artists such as world renowned flute player Nestor Torrez.

My real passion is singing. For me, dancing is just the way my voice radiates its influence through my body. Dancing is a natural extension of the sound of my music. -- Legend

In addition to her musical and dance talents, she also has the physical look necessary for mainstream pop marketability. She is an experienced and successful model. She has appeared in print ads (perfume, hair, clothing, etc.), television commercials (beer, hair, etc.) and live fashion shows (Victoria Secrets, etc.). Although modeling is not her main focus, her style and appearance is a plus to her on-stage audience appeal.

Legend has a bachelors degree in TV and film production, and has also studied classical opera and composition at the Conservatory of Puerto Rico. She has hosted a television series about music topics (House of Rock) and produced a pilot for her own music show (Latino Connection). She has also had small cameo appearances in a variety of other television programs.

Her new album features a variety of pop songs. The music was recorded in San Juan under the leadership of Grammy award winner, Ramon Martinez. Legend co-arranged and co-produced most of the songs with Joaquin Fernandez. The instrumentals feature such well known musicians as Januse Bakun (bass player for Ricky Martin and Mark Anthony), Reynaldo Torres (drummer for Luis Fonsi), Rey Reyes (singer for Menudo), Joseph Fonseca, Aldo Mata, and many others.

Music Business Contacts: Music Business Registry connects artists, managers, publishers, producers &

"The difference between success and failure is information," notes Ritch Esra, and he should know. Along with his partner, Stephen Trumbull, Esra is a leading part of the number one most-reliable source of information on "who's who" and "who does what" in the music business. Best of all, they can tell you where everybody is located.

FIVE VOLUMES OF DATA.

The Music Business Registry (http://www.musicregistry.com) publishes five directories: the "A&R Registry," the "Music Publisher Registry," the "Music Business Attorney Registry" the "Film and Television Music Guide," and the "Record Producer and Recording Engineer Directory." For many in the business, these are indispensable reference works.

"The directories give everyone vital, accurate and the most up-to-date information they need to contact the entire A&R, music publishing, legal and film/TV music communities," Esra states. From comparing notes with dozens of professionals in all of these areas of expertise, I can tell you that no one disputes his claim.

More than one music industry executive has told me that the Music Business Registry publications are worth their weight in platinum. Tess Taylor, president of NARIP (National Association of Record Industry Professionals), says "I couldn't get through one day without the directories from the Music Business Registry. These publications are the finest in the business."

Each directory tells you how to reach industry professionals by regular mail, e-mail, direct dial telephone and fax. The books provide each person's exact title, street address, the name of their assistant and the styles of music in which each executive specializes. Web sites are also included.

UPDATES? YOU WANT UPDATES?

The world of the A&R executive is exciting but ever-changing. Which is to say, there's a lot of turnover in this part of the industry. So much turnover, in fact, that the A&R Registry is completely updated and reprinted every eight weeks, whereas the publisher volume is biannual and the other books come out yearly.

NEED A PRODUCER? HERE ARE 1,700 OF THEM!

Created in partnership with RPM Direct, the "Record Producer & Recording Engineer Directory" presents 1,700 of today's leading Record Producers, Recording Engineers & Remixers throughout the US, Canada and Europe in every genre of music. Included in the book are:

(1) Complete contact information for every Producer, Remixer & Recording Engineer along with a list of their credits.

(2) Producer/Engineer/Remixer Management Companies including a complete

Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions Part One.

Having a terms and conditions on you website when you are operating online are vitally important. It cannot be emphasized enough that you require legal protection.

What are Terms & Conditions then?

The word term comes from the Old French terme meaning limit which came from the Latin terminus or end. A simple definition from the Oxford English Dictionary is: stipulations made; conditions offered or accepted.

The word condition originates from the Latin com - together and dicere - say. A simple definition from the same Dictionary is: something required as part of an agreement.

So one could say that terms & conditions:

Are perimeters or boundaries and requirements agreed upon and within which all transactions between two or more parties must take place for an agreed upon result to occur and without which no transactions take place.

In short it is your armour to ensure you are not taken by surprise in the rear!

A proper and legal agreement is required that sets out the terms & conditions of any proposed transaction or sale and the consequences of it. Therefore this is an area where you would do well to consult with your legal representative in order to draw up a set of terms and conditions for your particular circumstances. I have seen many web sites with no or skimpy terms and conditions that leave the merchant wide open to legal action which may be quite unwarranted but can cripple the merchants business. Ask yourself, why do all the larger companies have such an extensive and involved terms and conditions? Take a look at Microsoft or Procter & Gamble or any of the larger corporations. You will not find lip service paid to terms and conditions. You will see a page maybe two or more of legal terms and conditions. If you study the larger corporations well you will see they are protected with legal iron clad armour surrounding them on all sides including their backside.

Your terms and conditions should reflect your policy as relates to fraud as well as privacy and complaints and the client or customer should be acknowledging and agreeing to the terms and conditions prior to any sale taking place.

Everything Comes Handy With Detailed Wedding Checklist

Organizing a wedding party is not a child's play unless you create a detailed wedding checklist. The complexities related to the various events involved in wedding preparations are really mind-boggling. To be able to cover all the important aspects of the day, you need to have a detailed version of the original wedding checklist. At times, while you note down something, you don't think about the minute issues related to it. These little things can later have negative impact on your efforts. So your list would need to cover all major and minor points related to the marriage.

When The Going Gets Tough

A detailed list means that it contains something extra that normally you won't consider remembering. By extra, we mean planning for what that is hardly expected, planning for emergencies. As we all agree, a crisis can happen at any point of time, be it on the day of your first interview or even your D-day. And when it comes to your very special day, nothing to compromise about, agree? So, it better to consider these things as early as you prepare your pre wedding list. it is advisable for the bride as well the groom to prepare an emergency kit for themselves that comprises of everything that you think might be needed at any point of time. The bridal kit shall contain all the essentials meant for tip to toe that include comb, a pair of scissors, moist tissues, safety pins, a mouth-freshener, emergency pads and a mini sewing kit. The kit for groom shall have a deodorant, mouth-freshener, wallet, marriage license, and a spare camera. Apart from these, a medical kit shall also be kept ready with aids for general medical emergencies like headache, stomachache, body ache, flu, nausea, bruise and minor cuts. These kits shall be kept handy with the maids following you.

Know What Is Larger Than Life

There are petty things that play big roles in certain phases of life. Often we skip out of these areas and later realize their vitality. To keep a hold of these things, you need to do the framing of all the events in your detailed wedding list, that are likely to take place on the day and that too in order. This would help you maintain a smooth flow of all the events, without breaking the continuity. For example, music plays an evitable job in any auspicious function and when it comes to music, dance can't be left behind. It's a small thought but can be magical for any party. So, along with good music you can also arrange a dance floor for the purpose.

In your marriage-planning checklist, you can also mention about the gifts or what you say 'tokens of love' for your loved ones present in the wedding. The boundless joy of the people can reach beyond your estimation. Though it might consume lot of time but it's really worth working on detailed wedding checklist.

Organizing a wedding party is not a child's play unless you create a detailed wedding checklist. To read more information visit weddings-marriages.

Spamalot Delivers Laughs All Night

Drawing on the insane humor of the much loved "cult" movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", Monty Python's Spamalot has been wowing the audience on Broadway since it opened in March 2005. With a story line roughly looking at the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, the spoof musical parodies everything in sight in its quest to bring the audience to their knees in laughter. It pokes fun laughs at the Arthurian legend and quaint old English mannerisms, and satirizes that great institution that we love dearly: the Broadway musical!

Some famous tunes and references to Python offerings from the 1970's make it to the stage including 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", and nods to "the Lumberjack Song" and "Ministry of Silly Walks" sketch and the "Dead Parrot" sketch. Python fans will love it and will relive some old memories, and new audiences, unfamiliar with Monty Python, will gain a new appreciation of the peculiar British humor espoused by the likes of John Cleese, The Goodies, The Goons and of course, Monty Python.

More parodies in the show include a Lloyd Webber-esque power ballad "The Song Goes Like This" and a "Boy From Oz" style dance number "His Name is Lancelot". Yentl and The Producers get an honorable dig in the song "You Won't Succeed on Broadway".

Monty Python's Spamalot received 14 Tony Award nominations, more than any other show in the 2004-2005 season. It won three awards:

Best Musical

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical (Sara Ramirez)

Best Direction of a Musical (Mike Nichols) Suitable for all ages, everyone will love this show and see this musical! It has recently finished a successful season in Melbourne, Australia, and the final date is already scheduled in London's West End for early 2009. Make sure you get your friends and family together - because you always need someone to rehash a joke with you!

Carrie Underwood in Fresno

Carrie Underwood came to Fresno on May 28, 2008, and had her valley fans in frenzy when she appeared on stage to promote her latest album.

I must admit, I only knew a few songs. One of them being the "cheater" athemn of the year. "I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped-up four wheel drive carved my name into his leather seat..." but with that I mind I really did not know what to expect.

I was pleased. Well, sort of. I cannot really complain. I did not pay for the tickets. For a free show, It was not too bad. The music was great and she has a wonderful voice. Hence, the reason she won American Idol. She was pleasant to the audience. She interacted with us and cheered everyone along as we sang with her. (Well only one song for me.) It was a great concert if the music is all you are going for. Miss Underwood is certainly not an entertainer. Even though there were costume changes and a cat -walk there was nothing to the show.

Sure there were bigger than life screens above the stage, but nothing to make you say "WOW"! Or even want to go see her again in the next town. It almost like watching a rock concrete but at least they have dancers or something a little more appealing. It was very hard for Miss Underwood to walk her heels. (Something that most artist learn the second they make it.) Her costumes were pretty plain. The first was a tank and jeans, a purple ballroom dress; that eventually turned into cocktail dress, another tank and jeans, and last, the same tank and jeans with a silver jacket over her tom.

The outfits were very plain. Something maybe should be kept in mind the next time she comes around. Maybe some dancers or even models that could walk the cat-walk when she sang "All-American Girl". Or possibly little skits by her band mates that just stood there as the lazers made cool pictures in the back of the staduim.

All in all, for a free concert, for me, it was not that bad. Good family fun if you know her music and do not want much of a show. It is a good thing she has never claimed to be an entertainer.

When Are Lyrics Not Important?

As many fans of music know, the lyrical parts of a song are usually the most important and integral pieces to a particular song or pieces success. Many times these words are the only part of a song that fans will remember or be able to recognize in an instant. In addition, it is common for artists to make the leap into becoming a superstar when they come out with great lyrics for their new hits. But the truth is that not every artist in the world who is selling CDs and concert tickets has great lyrics to their work, or any at all for that matter. You might be wondering, how can music be good without meaningful words, much less having no words at all? This article should help to answer that question and change the common notion that all great music must have unbelievable lyrics as well.

To start out with, it is important to realize that music is not just the songs a person can hear on a radio. In fact, the first pieces of music were almost exclusively played in a concert hall. In this setting, a group of different instruments play in unison to a conductors movements. There are no words because quite simply there doesnt need to be any. Some of the most famous musical work in the world, and oldest at that, is often played in this style. While not popular with the youth today, classical music, as it is often termed, often goes hand in hand with being upper-class. Whether this is a fair pairing or not, that is debatable. But this much is true, many people find deeper meaning and enjoy this style of music without looking for words to accompany they harmony of the instruments!

On the other hand, a popular selection at almost any night or dance club is techno music. Techno music is often generated on a computer, and combines wacky sounding drum beats and other instrumental sounds to make a song that sounds like it was electronically produced. This music has many different beats and often is extremely easy to dance to. While it can have words, it is more common for techno songs to be without any human voices, or to use them sparingly. Even with the absence of almost any words at all, however, techno music remains a popular choice on any dance floor and it would be hard to find a club that doesnt play at least one song. Indeed there are even some popular techno artists, whose main musical talents lie in creating new beats and remixing past billboard toppers!

All in all, it should be fairly obvious by now that a song doesnt have to have lyrics to be considered worth listening to. Many different types and genres of music embedded in our society today are, in fact, found without any words at all. Whether it be rich classical music that your grandparents listen to, or fast-moving techno music that you dance to, words are not as important as they may seem initially.

Rebirth of Venus, the Art of Orlan

The French artist Orlan, her actual name is unknown, is making the ultimate sacrifice for art, her own body is her canvas. She has designed the perfect woman on her computer by using the worlds most famous women portraits, like the chin of Botticelli's Venus and the forehead of da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Through multiple operations, her atelier is the operating room, she is trying to really become the ultimate female she has designed.

The art of Orlan can be seen as a comment on the body culture in our modern world, we admire the perfect body and are searching for the eternal youth. Our body culture is not criticized by Orlan, she is just showing us how narcisstic we actually are becoming. Is that a bad thing? That yours to decide, but looking at the images of her surgery performances I must say I get really frightened.

The operations themselves are filmed on camera. The surgeons are wearing special outfits designed by famous designers, like Paco Rabanne and Issey Miyake. While she is undergoing her operations, there is music, dance and poetry.

In the art world they are kind of used to the idea that artists call themselves, or their actions, the artwork. Think of all the performances and happenings we had in the seventies, but this is something different. Orlon is actually considering her own body as art, and even brings her skin, the parts that are not used in the reconstruction, on the art market.

How to Play Lightning Fast Classical Guitar

Blasting out lightning fast scales on the classical guitar is a very impressive feat. It sounds so good and really raises the emotional level of your playing. You really can increase your playing speed if you understand a few basic principles.

The first principle of speed on the classical guitar is the fact that whole pieces are not fast. Speed in compositions comes in bursts. This is the basic tenet of comparison. A piece played Largo might have Andante passages that are fast. But these Andante passages are slow if compared to a composition that is presto. So be aware that speed is not necessarily how many notes a second but more a factor of notes and phrases in comparison to each other.

Practice, Practice, Practice

You already know that practice is critical to speed. You have to practice your scales just for the practice, and you have to practice a wide variety of scales. Classical Guitar is like every other form of kinesthetic art; as you practice the motions you make will settle into deeper regions of your brain and your body will learn how to do it without you even thinking about it. With practice you will be able to blast out very fast scales that will amaze you.

Now, all of that sounds good but what about some practical advice on how to get faster?

This part is easy, and the single best thing you can do to improve your speed is to make a conscious attempt at finger crossing patterns with your right hand. This is usually the biggest challenge to playing speed. Practice, on a daily basis if possible, crossing string patterns.

What are string crossing patterns?

This is the way you pick across the six strings with your right hand. If you are playing a scale and you transition from string to string with the right hand you will use a pattern such as playing the first string with your index finger then playing the second string with your middle finger. On to the third string you are back to your index finger and for the fourth string again back to the middle finger.

Avoid the same crossing patterns and create new ones

As you become aware of your finger crossing you will see that you have very distinct patterns that you use. You should create and practice new patterns that are not comfortable for you. This truly will dramatically increase your speed. A good example of a new pattern you might try is to switch your starting finger. When practicing scales you probably start the first note with your right hand index finger. And as you progress through the scale you cross scales in the same pattern. You should try starting the scale with your middle finger. This will totally change the crossing pattern you use for playing the scale and once you get a bit of practice like this your speed will increase significantly. Vary this crossing pattern in as many ways as you can and make sure you also do double strikes where you cross using the same finger. Try playing using only two fingers and then try using only three fingers. These new approaches will create new crossing patterns for you.

To improve your playing speed on the classical guitar you have to practice and you have to bump yourself out of your normal routines of playing. But with some conscious effort you can significantly improve your speed.

The author has been playing the classical guitar for over 20 years and is still learning. For more interesting stuff about this beautiful instrument including mp3s of him playing:

Developing A Conflict

One of the most important things you can do in a scene is find the conflict. Whether it is a monologue (internal conflict) or a scene with a partner (external conflict) there is always something that is at stake for the character you are playing. Think of it this way, if there is no conflict in a scene why are you watching it? People do not want to see everyday activities, they want to see drama.

With that being said, the question of how to find the conflict arises. First off let's define what conflict is. Conflict is two opposing forces trying to get what they want at the same time. For instance, one character wants a bag of money and the other character wants the same bag. This creates dramatic tension as both the characters will try by whatever means necessary to get that bag of money! What makes the scene interesting is the conflict between the two characters and the bag of money. If they both decided to share the bag of money and went happily on their way, there would be no reason to watch. It would be absolutely and excruciatingly boring.

People watch movies and plays to be transported away from reality. They watch it because it is often times much more interesting than their everyday life. If you do not find what your character wants in the scene then you might as well not even be in it. It will be boring and unentertaining without knowing exactly what forces are opposing you and how to overcome them. However, if you know what your objective is and you know how to attain it, it will add brilliant dimensions to an otherwise dull and pointless character. Think about scenes that really stand out in film or theatre and what makes them so great. Usually it is the tension between the two characters over something very important at stake. Don't take my word for it, just watch some of the great films and the conflict that gives them life.

Vacationing in Florida

When beginning your search for the ideal place to spend a weeklong vacation, consider the veritable wonderland of attractions and amusements that populate the state of Florida. With its warm weather and 1,100 miles of coastline, Florida is perfect for a fishing adventure, a relaxing week on the beach, or an action-packed family vacation. Make your way to Florida for your next trip and experience all the fun and excitement the Sunshine State has to offer.

On Floridas Panhandle, visitors will find cities such as Destin and Panama City that are a part of one of the most beautiful stretches of waterfront land found anywhere in the country. Perched along the Emerald Coast, the beaches here have sugar white sands that will roll over your feet as you stroll along the shore, soaking in the sight of emerald-green water. With such high-quality water at your disposal, you may find it difficult to pull yourself away from the numerous offshore activities that can easily fill the duration of trip, including snorkeling, scuba diving, canoeing, and kayaking.

If you are leaning towards an adventure on the Florida Gulf Coast, consider the Tampa Bay area for an always exciting excursion filled to the brim with diverse amusements. Although the beaches along Clearwater and St. Petersburg are an obvious way to fill your day, these areas are also teeming with natural beauty that is just begging to be explored. Here you will find underdeveloped barrier islands, nature parks, and botanical gardens so you can see a side of Florida that exists beyond the beaches all while getting a little exercise in, too.

As one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world, the Orlando/Disney area is a must-see for anyone with young children or anyone who cannot ignore the inner child inside of us all. With Walt Disney Worlds four parks, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney MGM Studios, and Animal Kingdom, located here, you could spend the duration of your trip navigating these distinct and highly-entertaining attractions. However, before you leave the Orlando area with your family, be sure to check out the other great amusements outside of Disney World, including SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and the water parks of Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

For those who prefer the Atlantic side of Florida, West Palm Beach is ideal for kicking back and enjoying amazingly scenic golf courses. The PGA National Golf Club has five championship courses that will challenge even the most experienced and well-rounded golfers with their astounding length and difficult hazards. With designs by Arnold Palmer and Tom Fazio, you can expect the gorgeous Florida landscape to be framed by stunning water hazards and lush green fairways.

When searching for a multitude of cultural attractions and a lively nightlife, Miami is the place to head for entertainment that certainly will not be forgotten. With a Hispanic background prevalent in the area, you can sample some of the diverse Spanish offerings at the Latin American Art Museum and Little Havana. And at night, you can find a wide selection of night clubs, ranging from blues to jazz to even rumba rap, that will meet your needs and leave you dancing in the streets as you make your way home.

The Florida Keys are the perfect getaway no matter what kind of attractions you are searching for. The Upper Keys are known for their excellent diving since the continents only living barrier reef is easily accessed from the east side and with Key Largo located here, you can find the typical tourist recreation to keep you occupied for the duration of your trip. Popular in the Upper Keys and Middle Keys, sportfishing is an excellent way to get out onto the water and try for a variety of fish such as tarpon, tuna, and sailfish. While the Lower Keys are known for being the quieter area of the Keys, you can easily head to the lower tip and experience the spontaneous parties and excitement of Key West.

No matter which part of Florida you decide to visit, your adventure can be filled with whatever kind of recreation interests and relaxes you. For the perfect cap on a promising trip, choose accommodations that make it easy to enjoy your Florida destination with all the gusto you can possibly imagine. Florida vacation rentals are located in the all the areas that matter most to you, so experience the convenience and comfort of home by staying in a home or condo rental that makes it easy to enjoy the beauty and attractions of this amazing state.

Belly Dance and the Feminine Image

History shows us through paintings that the veil came to symbolize the untouchable and tantalizing appeal of women in the Middle East. To show just a little part of the body was alluring enough to cause men to pine for women's affection. If we look at 19th Century paintings of various scenes of women dancing, the look of the belly dancer is quite refined. The distinctive folds in the belt or the accessories from the ankle all the way to the headpiece tell the individual story of each dancer. This is how dancers from the past to the present set themselves apart from their contemporaries.

I can remember seeing "Cleopatra" starring Elizabeth Taylor for the first time and thinking how beautiful the costumes were and how much fun they would be to dance in. "Samson and Delilah" with Hedy Lamarr is my all time favorite biblical movie and her costumes inspire me even to this day. Claudette Colberts costume in the 1934 "Cleopatra" looks like a costume of today. Hollywood had very unusual ideas about what the women from the Middle East wore. But if we look back through time the belly dance costume really hasn't changed all that much. This really surprised me because as I was doing my research it became apparent to me that when you have a good design it's hard to improve on it.

Recently I danced with a wonderful group of performers who were Asian dancers. Their costumes were amazing and I have to admit that I felt a little out of place in my cabaret costume. Their movements were very subtle and their gestures very soft and poetic. Which made me wonder what kind of poetry would belly dancing be? When it was time for me to perform I realized that our music really says a lot about our image. My costume was like magic because it made me feel free enough to dance and tell our story within my movements and gestures. In some ways I felt an obligation to relate to the audience that what I do as a dancer and performer is serious and respected.

But I have to question why I even felt the need to defend my costume and dance form. The dancers with their movements almost seemed to speak to me teasingly asking me why I wasn't covered more. Maybe I was just hearing my own voice questioning this. After I finished my dance the response I received overwhelmed me. It became apparent to me that because of the difference of my costume and dance the audience was able to appreciate the culture that I represented. Costuming really does make the difference for people. It's almost as if the audience can see the story within our movements all the while watching our costumes accenting each word danced through our bodies.

Years ago when I was in Cairo I was able to see Zuhair Zaki dance live and as I look back I realize how lucky I was to have seen such a legend perform. Zuhair Zaki is the total sum of what the belly dance image is for me. Every movement told a story and helped me "hear" the music. I was taught a very good lesson that night because I saw what a masterful dancer can do with music. I also saw Zuhair Zaki become the essence of belly dance as she performed. It wouldn't have mattered what she wore or where she was. The spirit of the dance was in her and you could see it and feel it. These are those spiritual moments that change you forever!

A few weeks later I saw Dina perform and was totally surprised at the sexual innuendos that emanated from her dance. The image of belly dance changed that night for me because I had assumed that provocative gestures were not allowed. Actually let me take it a step further, I didn't think it was necessary. But somehow Dina made it work for her and as I watched her performance I saw that she did a wonderful job. Her sexuality never got in the way of her performance. It enhanced her movements and I understood at that moment that Dina chose to dance free of any inhibitions or restraints her world put on her.

As a modern woman I often wonder how close my image is to women back hundreds of years. Our evolution as women has never been more evident than in the belly dance world. If we look at the dance of the seven veils the removal of the veils represent seven earthly illusions that fall away with each veil. In order for us to become the total feminine archetype in myth these veils must fall from us so we can transcend into the Goddess. As with all myths I wondered what these seven veils of illusion were because I had a suspicion that we may still be portrayed within this myth today. It became apparent to me that each illusion had an opposite side to it. So here's my version of the seven illusions.

1. The Virgin-Temptress

Many dancers have both abilities to enchant their audiences by offering the untouchable innocence of movement combined with eye contact that teases with a fleeting look.

2. Intrigue-deception

The ability to captivate our audience is a major part of our story telling but with all stories we must tell the audience that what intrigues them is only an illusion. This in itself can be perceived as a deception because we work so hard on the illusion that at moments it may become real.

3. Mother-Sex Goddess

Both of these describe the dilemma all women come across through out their careers. While we dance as women who understand what it means to carry and give life we are also expected to be proficient in the art of love. The illusion for most people is that we can be both but they want the two separate.

4. Wise woman-Childlike Innocence

The knowledge a dancer puts in her performing sets her apart from the average dancer. Knowledge is power and our movements speak volumes in regards to our history. The illusion here is that while we dance with experience our audiences to a certain degree want a virtuous dancer that will give them an unsullied look at our dance.

5. Wife-Mistress

In our dance we are compelled to perform from places of the heart. At least some of our music has this impassioned theme in certain songs. As women we feel the need to complete ourselves which is why we search for our mate. The mistress on the other hand is compelled to search outside of this completion which in itself is the wife's mirror opposite. We distance ourselves from the mistress personification yet in the eyes of our admirers the hope is that they get a glimpse of her.

6. Muse-transmutation

Poetry and music speak of the dancer that takes her audience to places of sublime heights. As dancers we are the muses of our times. At the same time we experience the audience that doesn't understand our dance and they try to alter it to fit their perception of the world. We than become a misunderstood version of our own poetry.

7. Diva-modest maid

A dancers self confidence has to come across to the audience or they will be sorely disappointed. Many fans expect a confident woman during and after shows. Yet I have found that dancers can almost believe too much in their personas that they create. We can get caught up in this illusion just as much as anybody. The catch here is to know when to turn your dance persona on and off.

As belly dancers we inspire so much in people and our allure isn't just the pretty costume, it is what we signify as women.

My question is do we understand what it is that we represent for so many? I have worked with a few women who were disassociated from their body image. They had no clue how beautiful they were because they bought into mixed messages from the media and cultural attitudes. How comfortable are we in the position of the archetype for today's women? If we can't get past the door of self appreciation, than I don't see us in the forefront of today's feminine society. Let us not forget how immeasurable we are as women. Our dance helps us create our own personal myth in which we than can escape into our own feminine image.

I have often wondered that after creating our feminine image, do we than transform gradually into her? Isn't this really what belly dance does? We heal and than become the women we are intended to be. This is how I believe the essence of belly dance lives and thrives through each generation of women. If we can understand our own image than we can be living examples of what belly dance is and the veils of illusion than become nothing more than invisible restraints that disappear through our own transformation. In this sense we than are reborn into women, who are comfortable in their own body, mind and spirit. And there is no better way to express our dance than by embracing who we are and dancing with veils of our choice.

Common Usage Errors

i.e. vs. e.g.

Use i.e. , to re-name, restate, or to clarify, as in, "He fell out of the window, i.e., down." This is an abbreviated Latin term (id est) that roughly translates as, "which is to say..." or "meaning..."

Use e.g., to provide examples, as in, "He liked falling from heights, e.g., out of windows, from airplanes, off of ladders." This is an abbreviated Latin term (exempli gratia) that translates as "For example..."

[And don't forget the comma after either one.]

Data is plural

Example: "The data are complete; we conclude that falling is dangerous." [We hear data used as a singular noun so often that the mistake seems right, but it isn't.]

Like vs. Such as

Use like to show similarities, as in, "He was falling like a rotten tomato that missed the stage."

Use such as to provide examples, as in, "Everything falls at times, such as tomatoes and bodies from windows." [Not: "Everything falls at times, like tomatoes and bodies from windows." Another correct way to say this is "Everything falls at times, e.g., tomatoes and bodies from windows."]

Everyone is singular

Example: "Everyone needs to jump out of his window." [Not: "Everyone needs to jump out of their window." You could use "his or her" to be politically correct.]

Comprise vs. Compose

Comprise means to gather multiple parts into a single whole. A good synonym is assemble. For example, "The band comprised [assembled] many different players." [Not: "The band was comprised of many different players."] Here, you have a whole and are describing its parts.

Compose means to make a whole by putting together multiple parts. A good synonym is create. For example, "The band was composed [created] of many different players." Here, you have the parts and are showing how they are put together to make a whole.

The difference is subtle, but what you need to consider is whether you are emphasizing the whole (the band) or the parts (the members of the band).

Staff is not a person

Use staff to refer to the entire group of employees and colleagues, and it is singular (the plural is staffs). A good synonym is team. For example: "The staff [team] is upset with the pay raise."

Use staff person or staff member to refer to an individual person on the staff. So, you would write, "Six staff members are not coming to work today." This refers to the individual people. If you want to refer to the entire staff at once, you would write, "The staff is not coming to work today."

Lisa-Marie Presley Has Decided To Walk A Mile In Her Father's Shoes

Although Lisa Marie has managed to keep her children protected from the spotlight, she has recently gone public with her own musical work.

Lisa has not chosen to go the route of acting at this time. However, she has gone public with several press releases and appearances on news programs. I was able to catch an episode of Primetime Live, which featured Lisa Marie Presley for a full segment.

The news commentator interviewed Lisa and asked her many questions about her life and her past. One of the things they did was show side-by-side film footage of Lisa Marie performing, alongside her father, Elvis Presley. The two performances were at least 25 years apart, in time, but were spliced together to view Elvis and Lisa singing and dancing to show similarities.

Although Lisa is unique in her own right, there are many uncanny similarities between her and her father. Let's face it, it's only natural for this to happen. And we love it!

The Way Lisa holds a microphone and moves around and gazes at the camera are strikingly similar to the way Elvis would sing and dance, and sneer at the camera himself. Lisa Marie Presley is undoubtedly very talented and has decided to reflect her talent publicly at this time. The video chosen to display Lisa Marie's singing ability was the main track from her new CD, To Whom It May Concern. The main track is titled Lights Out.

In fact, the film clip from the video, Lights Out, was the clip shown next to the film footage of her father, taken from Elvis' 1968 Comeback Special, featuring him in his black leather outfit.

Although Lisa was not dressed in black leather, her clothes were flashy, and her whole aura reflected that of Elvis Presley.

I think that even though much of the major public are not all that crazy about Elvis impersonator's, the music industry, and Elvis fans alike, are really craving an entertaining personality with the talent and charisma of Elvis Presley.

I believe that even though much of Lisa Marie's facial expressions, moves, and natural looks are very close to her father Elvis, the people are going to accept this because not only are these features completely natural, they are expected of any offspring of Elvis Presley.

Lisa Marie's personality, the words she chooses to use, her facial expressions, especially the way she would raise one eyebrow up, open her eyes wide, and gaze at the camera when pleasantly making a joke out of a statement, was especially reminiscent of her father but also very refreshing.

During a very intimate portion of the interview, Lisa Marie stated that she has had some experience with drug use. However, she went on to clarify that she now lives a pretty clean life, for the most part. She shared stories about her past marriages, her children, her mother Priscilla, and memories of her father, Elvis.

Primetime Live also showed some home movies of Elvis, Priscilla, and Lisa Marie in their home environment with Elvis spending time with his family, and playing games with them. As Lisa sat there watching it along with everyone else, her facial expression began to change from perhaps having her guard up and being ready for difficult personal questions, to one of gentle, sweet, memories and peace.

It is certainly very sad that Lisa had to lose her father so early in her life. She seemed to go through things in her life that reflected the pain and difficulty she experienced with losing her father so soon.

With all the difficult times in Lisa's life, along with the good times, she has come a long way personally and professionally.

Lisa did comment on her marriage to Michael Jackson, but didn't spend much time on the subject. She spent more time talking about her relationship and marriage with her first husband, Danny Keough. This is the first marriage during which Lisa had a child. Danny Keough also became a member of Lisa's band in 2004.

While Lisa was in her late teens, and early twenties, she was managed by Jerry Schilling. Mr. Schilling is one of the original members of the Memphis Mafia, who went on to accomplish a successful business career in show biz after Elvis died.

A piece of trivia that would be interesting to all. Lisa Marie Presley's children provided backup vocals for her on her recent CD titled, To Whom It May Concern.

Rocket Spanish Review, Part 1 - Can Learning to Speak Spanish Help You Have More Sex?

In 1999, a movie came out called "Deuce Bigolo: Male Gigolo". It starred American comedian Eddie Griffin and former Saturday Night Live standout, Rob Schneider. Both William Forsythe (from "Raising Arizona") and Oded Rehr (Israeli born actor that starred in "The Mummy") had small parts in the movie.

Oded Rehr acted as "Antoine Laconte"; the handsome, Hispanic stud who hires Rob Schneider's tilter character "Deuce Bigolo" to house sit for him while he goes away to Europe on a business trip. Antoine Laconte is a gigolo with a thick Latin accent. He reveals to Deuce that he uses his foreign, exotic charms and perception of sexual prowess to live a luxurious life style. Antoine Laconte brags to Deuce that "Women pay me to give them pleasure." After all Antoine Laconte is a gigolo.

In my humble opinion, this part in "Deuce Bigolo: Male Gigolo" touches a common sexual desire. That is having a forbidden, carnal affair with an unknown stranger. This attraction can especially be potent for Latin and Spanish speaking people because of the influence of the entertainment industry. What woman has not fantasized about being seduced by a, handsome Spanish speaking, Latin lover? What guy has not thought about hooking up with a hot blooded Spanish speaking "chick".

Why? For certain, television and popular culture are partially responsible for conditioning people to see Latin and Spanish speaking people as objects of sexual desire. I personally think that the appeal is also attributable to the fact that speaking Spanish is foreign and different. It is these differences in and of itself that creates the attraction and sexual desire.

The natural, biological, and intended purpose of sex is the procreation of offspring that are slightly, genetically different than their parents. This allows the human species to evolve and adapt. From a biological standpoint, the more variation the better. Then doesn't make since that for people to prefer potential mates that are deferent than themselves at the primal, biological level?

Of coarse, questions dealing with why and how people choose potential mates are far more complicated than the scope of this article. Nonetheless, all other factors being equal, speaking any foreign language, especially Spanish may give you the edge you need with the opposite sex. This may especially be true in a predominantly English speaking cultures and countries like the United States of America.

Can learning to speak Spanish, using a course like Rocket Spanish, help you seduce to opposite sex? Maybe it will? I don't think it will hurt. However, there are many more practical reasons to learn to speak Spanish other than for a booty call.

Here are a few of those reasons:

  • You wan to impress the opposite sex in social situations.
  • You want to broaden your horizons and enjoy the challenge of immersing yourself and into a new language and culture.
  • You are traveling to a Spanish speaking country and want to talk to the locals in their native language.
  • You want to improve your career opportunities. Many professions like: health care, teaching, international business, communications, etcetera will benefit from learning Spanish.

In part 2 of this Rocket Spanish Review, some of the leading learning to speak Spanish courses and Spanish lessons will be reviewed and compared with Rocket Spanish. You can click the following to read part 2 titled Rocket Spanish Review: What is the best Spanish learning program?"
