Latin Thug - 4 Life Navy - T-Shirt

If you're a saxophonist interested in playing any type of blues based music including rock and roll and even jazz then you need to use the blues scale as your number one tool to make things sound right.

A little history

If you want to investigate back to the beginnings of the blues as it came about in America just start with W.C. Handy, who was a black composer active in the early 1900's when the blues form began to get popularized in large part because of his instrumental compositions "Memphis Blues" (1912) and "St. Louis Blues" (1914). Of coarse the blues oral tradition can be traced back to the mid 1800's.

The blues scale

Because our western music has it's roots in European classical music the music theorists needed to notate the blues scale as it was naturally played and sung into an understandable notation which could be analyzed and played by western trained musicians.

The simplest way to explain it's theory is this:

Simply take the traditional major scale; C D E F G A B C and flatten the 3rd, 5th, and 7th. Now it looks like this: C D Eb E F Gb G A Bb C.

(Please look at the example on my website for the full musical notation). Notice the E, G, and B have been flattened, they are the 3rd, 5th and 7th notes of the C major scale and flattening them makes the scale sound minor thus giving it the "blues" or sad sound as opposed to the "major" or happy sound.

For us sax players these flat notes are perfect to incorporate a "growl" sound to further emphasize that "bluesy" expression or make it a bit more nasty. Two other things to notice; the 3rd and 5th can be played as a flat or not but the 7th generally is only played as a flat and not the major 7th in this type of scale or musical genre. (for some audio examples please refer to the website version of this article).

So now our basic major scale of 8 notes is now a blues scale of 10 notes. There are other variations to this blues scale; the basic version for example is a 7 note scale: C Eb F F# G Bb C (the F# being the same as the Gb). Adding the D, E natural and A give us more musical possibilities and will not change the basic sound of the blues scale. Even adding a flat 9th ( D flat) was a favorite thing Charlie Parker did a lot and is a good way to jazz up your phrases.

The blues progression

Of coarse this is all just words and notes and theory. You have to apply it and in any blues music this is done over a musical progression thats 12 measures in length, thus the term "12 bar blues".

We're in the key of C so the first 4 bars will be the C chord. The 5th and 6th bars change to the 4 chord which is F (4th note in the C scale).

The 7th and 8th bars change back to the 1 chord (C). The 9th and 10th bars change to the 5 chord, which is G. The 11th and 12th bars change back to the 1 chord (C). There are variations in this 12 bar pattern and can be seen on the website version of this article.

When starting out you can get away with just playing the same C blues scale over the entire progression but try to emphasize 1 or 2 of the notes in the F and G chord to make things a little more interesting. For example, over the F chord play an F or an A note to emphasize the harmonic color of the chord a little more.

In conclusion

The blues mean different things to many people ranging from musical styles to a way of life or philosophy. The blues do have musical influences from Europe and Africa but it is truly an American musical form and tradition fully rooted in the black experience of the post-war southern United States.

I want to be clear that when I talk about the blues or the blues scale I'm not only referring to this type of musical tradition and style but include funk, R&B, country, jazz and pop. Like the old saying goes; The blues had a baby and they names it rock & roll and from there came just about every form of pop music in western history since that explosive time in the mid 1900's

And so, I think it's safe to say that the blues scale is easily one of the most used and important scales for all types of western popular music.

If you are just starting out in belly dance then you will need some great belly dancing music to set the mood and motivate you. If you are new to the art and are concerned that you need to have authentic belly dancing songs to practice to then you can relax. For simple enjoyment or learning sessions at home, or in class among friends there is no need to look for authentic music.

The only thing that you need to be concerned with is that you enjoy what you are listening to, and that it makes you want to dance. The real deal music will only become important if you are interested in learning a traditional Middle Eastern style, then of course authentic music would be in order.

Compilations

Today there are quite a few compilation CD's on the market specifically created for belly dancing. If you want to practice your hip gyrations at home to the sounds of an authentic beat then a compilation like this is a great place to start. Most often these CD's offer you a wide range of styles from traditional Middle Eastern to a mix of traditional combined with Western styles. CD's like this are a simple and fun way to learn about the music behind the dance.

And don't feel shy about using other forms of music for fun. As long as the beat fits the pace of your dance and it inspires you to move, then go ahead and have fun. There are no rules and the sky is the limit as far as styles of music that will work. In fact Latin Music works astoundingly well for this dance form. It will serve as a good replacement if you cannot find a good belly dancing specific compilation CD.

The Real Deal

Now if you are a purist, or if you have a performance that you need authentic music for, then you should really seek the help of an instructor who has taught for some years.

The fact is that there are specific types of music that are particularly suited to each dance style. This means that even though you are playing authentic music, the piece being played may be wholly unsuitable for the dance you are learning. So a quick shuffle to the dance studio will do you good, and if there are no studios in your area then consider a video training course, these are often available online.

Customer Review: Evanescence Best Performer
in this CD i think that amy lee of evanescence sings very well... wow her voice it's wonderful!!!!! I think that bring me to life acoustic is the best track of this album.
Customer Review: Great Live Performances of Hits You've Heard on the Radio
This CD is put out by a radio station (Star 98.7 FM) in Los Angeles, and its original proceeds went to charity. The songs are "unplugged" versions of hits (and soon to be hits) by famous artists. The results vary widely. Evanescence is not nearly as good as the album version, and Liz Phair's stage fright makes her song painful at times. Matchbox 20, Jason Mraz, and Tori Amos all put in stellar performances that make this CD well worth its price.

Do you want to learn how to sing or just how to sing better? You may not be aware of it but its likely a case of learning how to sing better for most of us. Its not that absolutely everyone can sing, but most of us can if we take a sensible approach to trying.

There is a wealth of information available on the internet offering lessons and scales and claiming to reveal the Five least known Singing Secrets. Well heres something to ponder, there are no secrets. The ability to be a good singer is nothing more than learning how to listen to yourself, being able to correct you pitch if its off, breathing for a continuous supply of breath, and muscle control in your throat and body to produce the best tones, not to mention, tons of practice. Proper practice that is, not practicing mistakes.

Singing lessons will certainly help guide you to being able to recognize how all of these things go together but the reality is that you can quite likely do it yourself with only a little help.

Have you ever seen advertising that claims you can increase your range by an octave? That to me is a very big claim. Personally I would have to see it to believe it. Im not saying that its impossible but its not as possible as some would have you believe. The only real way to increase your range is to practice properly, without hurting yourself, and building your range up over a period of time. Thats the only way to do it safely and still keep a rich tone about your voice. My sense is that anything else would be falsetto singing and in my world, theres no real room for that.

This practice is where scales and such come in handy. You sing ascending scales and descending scales in a variety of phonetic phrases. Its a controlled environment and you can make improvements in your range for sure, but it will take time if you do it properly. Naturally the more you practice, the greater your improvement.

You may need to consider that range is not the be all and end all of being a great singer. When you listen to your favorite songs it becomes apparent that at least most of the song stick to a certain range and doesnt go too much higher or lower than that. Most of those notes are quite reachable by the average human so dont kill yourself trying to do something super-human when it comes to increasing range.

Instead of range, worry about pitch. It really doesnt matter how high or low you can sing if you cant hit the right notes in between. Stick to the easy stuff you know you can do and work up from there. Use your ears. If you sound like youre off, correct it and dont be shy about it. Youll be surprised at how quickly you stop singing wrong notes. Your ears are the greatest aid you have to being a great singer, you should learn how to use them first, then decide if you need lessons.

So, you want to learn how to play piano. So do thousands of others around the world. Here's how they usually go about it.

First, they try to find a piano teacher close to where they live. They may or may not know what style they want to learn, but figure the piano teacher can help them figure this out.

Next, it's off to the piano teacher for the first appointment. What usually happens here is the teacher gives the student "an assessment" to see what they know. Now, for the most part, piano teachers won't ask prospective students what they want to learn because they assume it will be classical in nature.

The benefits for the piano teacher in teaching the classical method are enormous! First, students must learn how to read music and this can take anywhere from 1-month to 1 year depending on how fast a learner the student is. Second, students learn classical repertoire and this can literally take forever. As this is happening over time, the student becomes a piano player who can read sheet music and play the music of dead composers reasonably well. That's the goal anyway.

The student at this point may have spent thousands of dollars learning how to do this thus increasing the piano teachers income. What a great deal for the piano teacher! But what about the student?

Listen, if your goal is to learn how to note-read and play other peoples music for fun then that is what you should do. But if you're interested in a more creative approach to piano playing, you may want to seek out a teacher who will show you how to play piano using a chord-based approach. Here's why:

  1. Time spent learning is greatly reduced. Listen to this... you can learn most chords on the piano within one month's time. You won't be an expert at it, but you'll know enough to get around on the piano. This puts you light years ahead of your classical playing counterparts.
  2. Musicianship is quickly realized. Do you know that most classical players don't have a clue how what they are playing was created? That's right! They just play the notes like a typist and never understand the mystery behind the music. Now, if you learn chords, inevitably, you're going to learn about chord charts and once you learn how to "chart out music," you'll be thinking like a composer. You'll be quantum leaps ahead of most classically trained musicians.
Look, if you really want to learn how to play piano fast, learn a chord-based approach first. You can always learn note reading later on.

Play Piano with Coldplay

Authentic piano parts for six hit songs by this British pop band, including vocal line, full lyrics and chord symbols. The CD includes "soundalike" backing tracks and full demonstration performances. Includes: Amsterdam * Clocks * Everything's Not Lost * Politik * The Scientist * Trouble.
Customer Review: The coolest thing for good piano players!
I'll say this right up front to you. If you are not a very good piano player then this book is not for you. If you can play good, have some training or can play by ear (like myself) -- AND you are a Coldplay fan... you will fall in love with this book. I've been a Coldplay fan since I first heard Clock almost 6 years ago and have never stopped listening to them. I couldn't believe this when I saw this and I'm honestly so pleased it already reached my expectations. The backing tracks are dead on. If you can play the Coldplay songs already then you will not have to go through the book and can just jump right into playing with the CD. I honestly felt like I was playing with Coldplay which is a dream come true. If just for that, this book was worth my 13 dollars. I would pay 13 dollars to just play clocks, but no, they give you six of Coldplay's best songs from ROBTTH, which is Coldplay's best album. Seriously, if you are good at piano or can learn, then I recommend this 100% to you. I also want to say that I like not having vocals because I like to sing with the backing track anyway. :) Negatives: For someone who has listed to these songs 100 times over, I can say that some of the piano parts that they play aren't 100% correct but it doesn't matter because when you play, you can do whatever you want. It may too advanced to moderate to beginner piano players.
Customer Review: Great book but with some complaint...
This is my first book purchased from the "Play Piano with..." series. Not being a huge fan of Coldplay I really enjoyed this book. The book features 6 songs and comes with a CD that includes 12 songs. 6 of the songs are Coldplay performing with the piano music; the other 6 are the same songs without the piano music - you're the accompaniment! A couple of complaints: 1 - The CD and layout of the book are great! But the set of 6 songs you get to play the accompaniment with do NOT include Coldplay's vocals, except toward the very end of the song. Kind of misleading. The book should be titled, "Play piano with Coldplay's band" - though I'm not certain it's the actual band. 2 - I wish there was a way to slow the tempo down for practice, but since it's on CD there's no way of doing that. (UPDATE: Windows' Media Player has a "SPEED" feature and you CAN slow it down, wow!!) Overall a great fun book to play along to. I really felt like I was part of a band!

I am 33 years old. The average hip hop artist has got to be much younger than that. I am over the hill according to the members of the cool hip hop crowd. Maybe....or maybe not. Some of the most successful hip hop artists can still be relevant well into their late thirties, or even the early forties. The point I am trying to make is that you don't have to be a spring chicken in order to be successful in the hip hop business. All you need is the drive to move forward. Most people are just too comfortable where they're at to move forward.

I love hip hop music and the feeling you get just from being around it. One could almost feel the beats rumble through every inch of their body as they move in rhythm on the dance floor. A lot of people would love to be a hip hop artist, but just don't know how to start. Hey, I am no mogul, but one thing I can tell you is that a great jumping off point would be locating some catchy beats. With a little research you will find how easy ideas can come to you. In fact you can probably find some free hip hop beats on the Internet.

I remember going to a club once when I was younger and seeing the reactions to the different hip hop songs the DJ would spin. People went crazy every time a new, gripping hip hop record was played. I was fascinated by this. Here were a group of strangers who seemed to be united by their admiration for killer hip hop beats. I knew then that I wanted to be in the hip hop world. I was young, single and felt that I could do anything. When I told my uncle about my ambitions he introduced me to a friend of his that was a small time local record producer. I went by to visit him and he gave me some free hip hop beats to back up the rap lyrics I had been writing. We had some great sessions but for reasons I cant remember, the producer and I were never able to get a finished product. All I have left are memories.

Now, some 13 years later, I still wonder how far I might have gone. There is nothing to keep me from picking up where I left off so who knows, maybe I will dust off the brain and try and come up with some catchy rhymes and look for some free hip hop beats, ( I will try and start with as little money as possible just in case I am way past my prime,) and try my hand at an old talent. Wish me luck.

If you are serious about your craft, then Download Hip Hop Beats Here You will find hours and hours of every style of hip hop beat imaginable.

" Coldplay " : It's Easy To Play

Chris Barbers Jazz Band with the beautiful Otillie Patterson on vocals brought the sound of New Orleans to British traditional Jazz buffs in the late fifties and early sixties. This was just the beginning of a wave of new sounds that culminated in what came to be known as the British Blues Boom! On Banjo was the great Lonnie Donegan who became the Godfather of Skiffle a year or two later. All of the early musical melting pots were springboards for the next generation of musicians and within a couple of years the Music scene was to change forever.

My first exposure to the blues was on Barbers wonderful L.P. New Orleans Joys. I forget all the titles now but the haunting sounds stirred up strange sensations and led me a few years later to a life long passion for the Blues as I am sure it did with many young kids at the time.

The year 1962 saw the birth of several Blues gigs in London Clubs, notably the Famous Marquee which made its home in Wardour Street, Soho. The great Alexis Korner was to prove to be a nursery slope for what was to come. Cyril Davies on Harp, Dick Heckstall- Smith on the most wailing of saxophones, Mick Jagger (yes that one!) on vocals to name but a few. I guess that first Album recorded live at the MarqueeAlexis Korners Blues Incorporated, started the trickle which very rapidly gathered momentum and soon the Blues was the talking point of all young music heads.

Playing at the Marquee shortly after, in 1963 was the man destined to become the Godfather of British Blues John Mayall. Johns famous band, The BluesBreakers went onto fame and fortune as many musicians joined and left in quite a procession over the next couple of years. John celebrated his 70th Birthday a couple of years ago and is playing as well as ever. This gives lie to the notion that life is over at forty and its all downhill from there on. The list of Johns protges is a whos who of the music business; a good proportion of whom are still playing today. John McVie, co-founder of Fleetwood Mac, Mick Fleetwood, Jack Bruce of Cream, Eric Slowhand Clapton, Peter Green, Aynsley Dunbar, Mick Taylor and many more.

The band that I believe was the turning point at this time was undoubtedly The Yardbirds, whose incredible energy and enthusiasm were absolutely unparalleled on stage. My first exposure to this Juggernaut was on a Monday morning at school one time when some friends told me about this amazing band that they had seen at the Marquee who had a Guitarist that was simply unbelievable. The Year was 1963, the man in question (well he was only 18 years old!) was Eric Clapton.

The Legend was already underway at this stage and I believe Eric was responsible for the huge interest brewing in the Blues in Britain as the Yardbirds became household names on the R n B circuit. Many Guitars were sold at this time as young bloods attempted to emulate Clapton, some with success and many without. Probably one reason for the upsurge in Guitar bands as opposed to wishy washy pop sounds of the time was the discovery of the almost forgotten Gibson Les Paul which produced the sound closest to the Chicago Blues of a decade earlier. Erics use of this instrument took the Blues to a new height and no-one could escape the flood that was on the way. With the Yardbirds there was a mix of Gibson and Fender guitars in use. Eric initially played a Fender Telecaster with Rhythm Guitarist Chris Dreja using the Gibson 335, but the favourite in years to come particularly in 65 and 66 was the Les Paul.

In 1963 one of the first Bluesmen to arrive on this side of the Atlantic for a Tour was the legendary Harp player Sonny Boy Williamson who recorded a wonderful live album with the Yardbirds that was not released for several years. The restrained backing that the band provided to Sonny Boy showed them to be tight and controlled but Keith Relf the Lead singer and Harpist was a little put out at having to take a back seat to the Master during the gig. Many more Blues legends toured Britain and Europe in the following years which not only revitalised their own flagging careers but gave the budding white Blues players a chance to learn from the Maestros. These include Howling Wolf and the legendary Son House who had been a contemporary of Robert Johnson in the nineteen thirties. The author was privileged to see Son House play in London in 1970 shortly before he died. He was very frail but he certainly could make that National Steel Guitar sing sweetly!

The Album that preceded the Flood was of course the 1966 rendition by John Mayall entitled simply John Mayalls Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton recorded on the Decca label .This album marked the first vocal airing by Slowhand and he chose Robert Johnsons Rambling on my Mind as his debut. The interrelating of Mayalls gutsy Barrelhouse Piano together with Erics Les Paul and his tentative vocals, wrote a piece of Blues History that day in the studio. That Album sums up for me not only the musicianship involved and the passion of the music but the very essence of the British interpretation of the Blues. I have listened to this song so many times now since the first momentous day that it came through the speakers and every time its hard to keep the emotions steady.

The Robert Johnson Legacy forms an integral and vital part of the Birth of the Blues in Britain and is responsible for the undoubted vitality of todays thriving Blues scene on both sides of the Atlantic. There are no Blues Bands past or present who do not owe a debt to Robert Leroy and his magic. His genius and virtuosity with the bottleneck will live forever!

    Bad Parade

When planning a wedding there are many details to consider. Part of the planning, especially for an evening wedding reception, will include music. Whether you choose to have a DJ or a live band, the music style as well as your first dance song will be part of your decision-making.

For this choice, there can be as many sources of inspiration as there are couples, but if you're looking for ideas, here are a few tips to help get the ball rolling...and the music playing!

    - First Dance Romance: For your first dance wedding song, is there a song that is special to you and your spouse-to-be? Perhaps one which reminds you of when you first met, or was playing on your first date. The song need only be special to the two of you; for your first dance, no one else in the Universe matters.

    - Ask your parents: Is there a type of music that was popular back when they met or got married? For example, many couples choose to pay tribute and thanks to their parents by choosing to include some music from their parents' era at their weddings. This can be very touching for members of the guestlist who are old enough to remember the music, and will enjoy the nostalgia.

    - Culture: If there is a culture one or both of you come from and would like to honor, ask some relatives for their choice in songs which come from this unique background. Again, a few choices in this genre will be very much appreciated by guests to whom this music would be very special.

    - DJ: For the most popular wedding song ideas, your DJ would be a great source for choosing your first dance song as well as current trends for wedding celebrations and parties. He or she is an expert and will be able to tell you what is popular currently.

This should help you get started. Have a wonderful time planning your special day, and an even more wonderful enjoying it!

Customer Review: No rhythm no problem
I will say this I'm Hispanic so I did know some Salsa before I purchased this DVD. I wanted to learn some advanced moves and I realized before I purchased this video that prob wasn't for me. It wasn't but it did teach me some basic concepts in general. It also taught me how to turn. I'm a natural dancer but it gave me concrete steps which I just do without thinking. That being said I do believe this will teach ANYBODY to dance. He gives so much detail and repetition there is no way you won't be able to pick it up. I love the hand tricks. Also I didn't have a partner and this a partner video. Don't buy if you have dance experience.
    Customer Review: Easy to follow.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow. My husband has absolutely no rythym and he picked up the steps.

What is it about words? What is it that makes them so fascinating, or so difficult? Way back when, when I was in school, I was a perfectionist. Of course, I still am, but back then one of the ways that those traits came out was in my writing. I have always loved to write. It was a point of pride to never use the same words to describe the same thing twice in anything that I wrote. One thing that I did that enhanced my ability to fulfill this quest was taking foreign languages. In high school, I took French, Spanish and Latin. It was so cool how learning these languages improved my English, especially Latin. I can remember my Latin teacher telling me that someday in the future, "agricola", or farmer, would probably be the only Latin word I would remember. Even then, Latin was a language that was "dying" in popularity. Of course they were close to right, although I do remember "amor" or love, as well. (That's the romantic in me, I suppose.)

The cool thing about learning new languages was the understanding they provided me in understanding English. Agricola, for example, is a root word for agriculture. Amor is a root word for amorous. When I was in school we had the choice of taking French or Spanish in 7th grade. I chose French because that was the language that my best friend at the time chose. I was always glad that I did, because after learning English and French, Spanish, and then Latin, were a breeze. How many times in your life have you heard someone talk about their "fianc" or about going to a "rendez-vous"? What about eating "tortillas" or "enchiladas"? Every language has added to ours in some way. Latin is the root language for all three of the others, as well as several other languages, including Italian.

Now, why would anyone care about my foreign language experience? Well, what it all comes down to is my vocabulary. While I, admittedly, have lost quite a bit over the years, the experiences that I have had have given me a basis to remember. When I speak, or when I write, it is natural for me to do my best to use words that are a perfect fit. I cannot relax when I am writing if I cannot think of exactly the word I need to make my meaning understood. Having a Thesaurus helps, of course, but what about when I am not at home, or in a situation where I have to have instantaneous recall? That is where having a large vocabulary can make a huge difference. It makes a difference in how employers look at me. It makes a difference in how others perceive my intelligence. It really comes in handy when helping my children in school.

All that is well and good, but what if you haven't had the opportunities that I have had to learn? What if you are a student, struggling in school? What if you are a parent and your kids are struggling, but you are unable to help them? What if you lost your job and are in the market for a new one? What if you are trying to climb the corporate ladder or just move up in your company? Or even, what if you are retired and just want to travel or volunteer, and you end up helping children with their schoolwork? Whatever place you are in in life, a substantial vocabulary will help you.

    MTV Unplugged

On March 6th, Julieta Venegas recorded her MTV Unplugged at the Churubusco Studies in Mexico City, where she presented new songs besides interpreting some of her greatest hits in an intimate atmosphere to a live audience.

This production counts on important and interesting collaborations like two time Oscar winner, Gustavo Santaolalla, who accompanied her with the banjo and sang the chorus of the song "Algun Dia (Someday)". Brazilian singer, Marisa Monte featured in song "Illusion", a new and beautiful song that combines the Spanish and Portuguese language.

Also Mala Rodriguez joined Julieta and included a strong hip hop movement to the song "Eres Para Mi (You are for Me)", whereas the vocalist of Porter, Juan Carlos had a unique participation in "Algun Dia (Someday)".

In addition, the very talented Natalia Lafourcade comprised of the orchestra and played several instruments during the night, whereas the talented musician and composer, Jacques Morelenbaum accompanied Julieta on the cello in "De mis Pasos (From my foot steps)".

Everywhere I go there seems to be some sophisticated discussion or debate about what's wrong with the music industry and what needs to be done to fix it. The conversation takes place in offices among professionals who have been around long enough to know that things are indeed different, and at industry conferences among music artists who revel in new found optimism that infrastructure changes and the arrival of the new digital/mobile entertainment era will "level" the playing field and create more income opportunities.

As tempting as it may be, I am not enamored with or preoccupied by the current problems that face the music industry. Issues such as declining record sales; the consolidation of radio stations; the constant merging of record labels; the lack of longevity in the "careers" of music artists; declining CD sales; or any myriad of issues regarding the illegal downloading of music on the Internet. Why? Because while so many in the music industry (professionals and artists alike) spend countless hours lamenting over things that they can't control, I only focus on the things that are within my control such as my professional pursuits, income generating activities, and investing in profitable relationships.

Most importantly, my business model is based on my passions because while I know that the economy will always fluctuate up or down, and industry trends will turn hot and cold in the blink of an eye, my love for what I do is a constant and remains unaffected.

In 1999 I had the pleasure of meeting and briefly talking to Barry White at a party for the release of "Love Unlimited," his semi-autobiographical book on his adventures in life, love and the music
industry. When he asked me what I did for a living, I told him I was a music industry consultant. Barry, who was much darker in person than he is on television and in his videos, flashed some of the whitest teeth you could ever imagine and said, "I don't know what that is, but as long as you believe in what you do, that's all that counts."

I went on to enthusiastically explain to him what I did as a music business consultant, asking him for advice and hogging up his limited time in the process. He stopped me before I could really dive deep into it and interjected in his sincere, rich baritone voice, the advice that I still follow to this very day, "Constantly re-commit yourself to what you do and the money will follow..."

We all need to re-commit from time to time. We all lose sight of what we actually do for a living and the reasons why we do it, but the long roots of true passion run deep...and even when the tree is cut down by unfair business practices, a gluttony of superficial encounters, busted deals, a never ending parade of fakes and flakes, unpredictable and unforseen circumstances, technological changes, and rampant un-professionalism that plagues the industry, you endure because you know that at the end of the day you are truly passionate about what you do and it all becomes a mere occupational hazard that you learn how to deal with.

While many aspiring industry professionals have fashionably set their sights on the greener pastures of the music business, prostituting their values for the sake and pursuit of money, the vast majority will not obtain the riches they so desperately seek, nor will they be in it for the long haul. Why? Because they lack vision, focus, commitment, and above all else, true passion for what they do - which brings us to the question: what's love got to do with it? When it comes to art, you would think everything, but the sad truth is that there are many in the music industry that are more passionate about self-serving interests, than they are about music as an art form (unless, of course, the music we are speaking of is their own).

And what about all the "changes" that people are talking about so adamantly? History shows that this industry is always changing. The industry never stops changing; technologically; structurally; logistically; and creatively. Adaptability is a requirement of success in every industry because change. The music industry was predicated on change and entrepreneurship.

Can we deny the entrepreneurial spirit of Apple and their convictive belief in iTunes? Or the unyielding belief that the creators of American Idol have in their little "talent" show? I can't, nor can you, because
that's what happens when you are passionate about your business ideas: they become business opportunities.

So for those who are distracted by the changes that are taking place in the industry, my free, but valuable advice to all of you is to focus on what you love to do. Your passion is the intangible that will increase the value of your product or service. Your business needs and opportunities will announce themselves at the appropriate time. Until then, rekindle your love affair with your business or art, because in the end, love has everything to do with the reason you do it in the
    first place.

Idaho vacations are the ideal mix of stunning scenery, fun family activities, and comfortable summer weather. The freedom and uplifting feeling of the area stand as a powerful introduction to a wide assortment of outdoor activities, arts and cultural events, and quality, mindless fun. The Teton area of Idaho makes for unforgettable family vacation.

    Teton Valley Lodging

Cabin rentals in Idaho are a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of Idaho vacations without being forced to spend phenomenal amounts of money for gas to pull a camping trailer or having to sleep in a tent on the hard ground. Close to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, the Teton Valley area has a mix of cabins from quaint rustic mountain cabins to luxury western-style cottages that have Jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces, and personal wet bars.

Teton Valley lodging includes establishments with a more traditional hotel style. There are several comfortable and opulent lodges, inns, and hotels to choose from. Ornately decorated rooms come with an abundance of space and heavenly views. Many of the Teton Valley lodgings include extra amenities such as spas, coffee bars, fine dining, golfing, and much more.

    Summertime Fun

Idaho vacations have a vast number of outdoor activities and summer events that allow visitors to create completely personalized vacations. Being in the heart of Idaho's national parks and a spectacular mountain range, outdoor sports are a favorite of visitors to the Teton area. Take the kids for a relaxing afternoon of fishing or boating followed by a glider ride. Hiking or horseback riding can be included on the itinerary for the next day. If a closer look at the area's wildlife sounds more fun, an 'Elk Adventure' or wildlife trek is a great way to spend the day.

Music and the arts can also be included in Idaho vacations. Music festivals in the area, including "Music on Main," "Fiddler's Contest," "Grand Targhee Music Festival," and "Grand Teton Music Festival," cover all genres and include several children's activities as well. The many concerts and events in and around the Teton Valley area include some of the best musicians and bands in the world. Art centers and galleries feature a variety of art collections, ballets, dance recitals, and film festivals.

After a family vacation, Idaho vacations give visitors the chance to include a romantic getaway by enrolling the kids in one of the local summer camps. The Summer Explorers Program focuses on the natural environment of the area through crafts, science, sports, and activities. It is open to children ages three to fifteen and is available in one, three, or five day packages.

Idaho vacations give visitors an infinite combination of lavish Teton Valley lodgings and entertaining activities to plan the ideal family vacation that suits everyone's tastes. There is lots of space and fun for the little kids as well as a chance for the 'big kids' to enjoy themselves as well. Idaho is a wonderful choice to get away, spend quality time, and make unforgettable, life-long memories.

The next dance craze is bachata, a Dominican dance. Many people have been dancing it incorrectly. Since it's a very close romantic dance, most people dance it in a grinding way. It's not! You can grind during merengue, house, hip-hop and even lambada, but please don't grind during bachata!

There is big difference between gyrating and grinding. Bachata is NOT grinding! I have been trying to figure out why some women avoid dancing bachata. They think it's a freak dance. They think it's perversive. Being a bachata teacher that I am, I take offense with this notion. Any bachata teacher that teaches such false gospel should stick to house and hip-hop.

Grinding involves pelvises. And sometimes crotches. Also, back ends. Take two persons; add hormones, romantica music and lots of friction and you get the point. This dance is called "Freak Dancing," not bachata!

Yes, If you have taken my classes and workshops, I have always emphasized leading from the hips, and that, you must do when you are both close to each other. If you are a good leader, your hips along with your partner's, naturally and automatically, move in unison. If you are grinding, you are doing it wrong!

    Bachata is not frottage!

On the other hand, I love the gyration of the hips because this type of movement is accepted since the beginning of dancing. It is one good expression of dancing. Some dancers perform it while dancing solo (merengue or salsa shines), or they gyrate with their partners in unison!

Now If I ever see you in the clubs again grinding to bachata, I'll slap you upside the head!

    El Cantante

Though they don't look much alike, slight actor-singer Marc Anthony was born to play robust salsa sensation Héctor Lavoe. In addition to similar ancestry and vocal skills, Anthony has been building a respectable cinematic resume with roles in Big Night and Martin Scorsese's Bringing out the Dead. The title of El Cantante comes from a number Rubén Blades wrote for The Singer. Lavoe would make it his signature song. In the film, Anthony's wife, producer Jennifer Lopez, plays Puchi, the Nuyorican beauty who won Lavoe's heart. She narrates their story from the perspective of 2002 (the real-life Puchi passed away shortly afterwards). Leon Ichaso (Piñero) contrasts Lavoe's rise from Puerto Rican street singer to New York superstar with his fall from innocent immigrant to heroin-addicted ladies man. By the mid-1980s, Lavoe's popularity hit its peak, and Ichaso spends the rest of the time ticking off the tragedies of his final years: the break with trombonist Willie Colón (John Ortiz), stay in a mental ward, etc. It's a dynamic portrait, and Anthony and Lopez work well together, but despite the urban setting and Latin-flavored soundtrack, El Cantante follows virtually the same trajectory as Ray and Walk the Line (Ichaso has also directed biopics of Jimi Hendrix and Muhammad Ali). His movie looks and sounds authentic, but Lavoe's story might've been better served as nonfiction. There's a sense that there was more to the man than what appears on screen. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
    Customer Review: El cantante sings!
I loved this movie and I also love JLo and Marc Anthony! I think this movie was underrated. If you are truly interested in Hector Lavoe, you will love it. If you buy it just cause you want to see JLo and Marc, you probably won't like it. They are good in the movie but the story is what made it for me. Of course, it goes without saying, Marc Anthony's voice is supberb!
    Customer Review: WONDERFUL....
I rented this film recently and was surprised at how good it was. The story depicts the stormy life and tragic end to the great salsa legend Hector Lavoe. This movie hits you in the heart from the start. It makes you care about the character and his music. I now own a cd of Hector Lavoe and I never knew I could like salsa. Who knew?? His music is amazing and the tragic events of his life makes you want to know the person behind the prose of his songs. My ears know good music when it hears it and this man was a icon. Hector Lavoe.......rest in peace! I'm not much of a fan of Jennifer Lopez but she played a good role. However, another actress (a more popular one) would have made this film more marketable to the non-Hispanic population ( mass audience).

There is nothing more special than your wedding dance. Just the thought of the first dance between a husband and wife is enough to take your breath away. From the most elegant of waltzes to the most basic side-to-side, unrehearsed steps, it is always one of the most touching moments of any wedding.

Sometimes, however, watching the new couple dance at their wedding is a lot more romantic to witness than to experience first-hand. While everyone watching is thinking, "They look so happy," "What a beautiful couple," something much different is going on in the minds of the bride and groom. The bride is second-guessing her shoes, hoping that her dress doesn't get tangled and praying that her new husband won't try to add a new "move" that will go horribly wrong and result in flinging her across the dance floor. The groom is wondering how fancy he's supposed to get with the dance, hoping that he isn't squishing her dress too much and crossing his fingers that he doesn't step on the bride's feet, which he can't even see. And both of them are thinking "Please don't let me trip. Please don't let me trip. Please don't let me trip."

Rather than let everyone else at your wedding enjoy your wedding dance more than you do, why not learn your own personally-choreographed wedding dance? Whether you and your fianc love to dance and just need some guidance and practice or if you have never danced together at all, something memorable and romantic can be choreographed especially for you.

You don't have to worry about what level of experience you have. Some of the most elegant dances are the most simple to learn. We just take things one step at a time. With a little bit of practice, you'll begin to become comfortable with your special dance.

The first thing you need to do is choose your song. Some people have an "our song" but many don't. If you don't have a special song, go through your music collection or ask your friends and relatives what song they chose for their wedding dance. If the song isn't important to you, but you've always imagined a Waltz, a Rumba or a Salsa for your wedding dance, we can listen to a few songs and choose one together.

Once you start learning your specially-choreographed wedding dance you will have plenty of time to practice before your wedding. Remember that these are private lessons, so if you need extra help with something or if some spot in the choreography just isn't flowing right, we can either practice a bit more on that section or change it to something more comfortable for you. As you become comfortable with your wedding dance, you will become more and more excited to show it off on your big day.

With a little bit of time and practice you and your new husband or wife can enjoy your wedding dance even more than you ever dreamed possible.

Want to learn to dance? Wish you could move your body confidently on the dance floor? Or would you just like to have a great excuse to get out and meet people? Well for all of the above come and visit Dance Vogue where professional dancer and teacher Natalie Beck show you how to take the next step.

If you have your wedding around the corner and are worried about that first dance, Natalie has a lot of experience helping couples get confident and looking great dancing together in a short period of time. Have a look at her wedding dancing lessons to get up to speed.

    Good Impressions

"Good Impressions," Alex's debut release, is a mix of clean rhythm guitar with jazz roots as well as melodic ballads that have a hint of British sounds from Coldplay, Doves, and Radiohead. The album is acoustically based and Alex played all instruments including guitar, bass, and violin that are heard on the CD. In addition, Alex sang all vocal parts including harmonies. As Peter Baker of Philadelphia's "Fly Magazine" wrote, "The CD is well-produced and he writes lyrics that betray the fact that Nackman himself is just 19 years old (August 2003)." Most of the tracks surround themes such as relationships, love, and the challenges of life in general. The lyrics are honest and have stories behind them which can enable listeners to relate and empathize a little more to the situations that Alex describes in his songs. Alex's attention to jazz forms of guitar playing has allowed him to write music with a unique blend of sounds. Some tracks have a heavy rhythmic feel with "stuck in you head melodies" like "Where Eden Lies," and other songs have a sweeping and moving sound, such as "Tonight," which is layered with several voices and instruments.
