Ultimate Santana

2008 reissue housed in a deluxe cardboard slipcase. This single disc anthology brings the legendary guitarist's best recordings of his Arista Records era together with his greatest classics from the Columbia Records years on a single compact disc. Among the 18 tracks are the chart toppers 'Smooth', 'Maria Maria', 'Black Magic Woman', 'The Game Of Love' (with both Michelle Branch and Tina Turner), 'Oye Como Va' and many more. Sony/BMG.
Customer Review: big mistake
YUK! I just recently started downloading mp3s and really screwed up when I bought this thinking it would be the Carlos Santana music I knew in the 60s. What else would "Ulitmate Santana" mean? Instead most of the album is just Santana accompanying some bozo singing stupid disco type songs. My bad. Remember, when it says "featuring so-and-so" it usually means you better like so-and-so and not care too much about who the titled performer is.
Customer Review: Great songs, but...
Carlos Santana has very few bad albums, or even bad songs. (Stay away from his collaboration with John McLaughlin though.) If you're looking for a one-disk compilation and are familiar with his later songs plus his late 60's hits, the songs here will be familiar. But... try Caravanserai, Borboletta, or some of his other unbelievable albums from "in between". If this is all you know of Carlos Santana, you have a lot to discover! What you hear on this disk is just an introduction. I give this review 4 stars rather than 5 not because there are bad songs on this CD (there aren't), but because you, as a Santana listener, deserve more.

If there's one location in the world that has become synonymous with the world of dance music, it's the island of Ibiza.

Films have portrayed it, bands have sung about it, television crews have filmed documentaries on it (or rather what goes on there) and there've even been movies made around and about it.

Every year, thousands of revellers head for the island, tempted by the cheap hotels, warm climate and abundance of pubs, bars and clubs that pump out the basslines.

Indeed, the dance music scene is what's made the island famous, and has helped to attract many Club 18-30 holiday companies as well as being a popular retreat for those on stag and hen does.

Hotels in Ibiza are packed to the rafters at the height of summer, with many tourists descending upon a number of towns on the island - such as San Antonio and San Rafael - which have become famous for their vast dance clubs, which play host to a number of famous DJs throughout the peak of summer.

For those who wish to step away from the thumping basslines, there are many gorgeous sandy beaches on which to relax - usually before the next mad night of clubbing -many of which are a short walk from coastal hotels.

Water sports are a common activity for holidaymakers to the island - from waterskiing to wakeboarding to pedal boat hire. For those looking to escape the clubs and explore some more of the island, the countryside away from the bustling resorts offers the chance of some tranquillity. Sights include the caves at Can Marca and a number of stone towers, which offer the chance to take in some spectacular views of the island.

The sheer numbers of tourists that head to the island every year mean that there's no shortage of bars and restaurants (should you feel brave enough to join the throng of clubbers) - however there are many quaint little restaurants that are tucked away in towns away from the bustling resort areas.

So whether you're coming for Pacha or the paella, Ibiza remains one of the most popular of the Spanish tourist destinations. Don't expect too much peace and quiet however, although measures are being taken to make the resort more family-friendly.

Looking for hotels for your Balearic adventure? Compare from a wide range of cheap hotels and hotels in Ibiza to help plan your perfect trip.

Written by George Michael Cohan, "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" was 'Broadway Composer Cohan' at his best. Today, the wit of the lyrics and the song's tempo and temperament continue to elicit applause in theaters nationwide.

George Cohan was born at Providence, Rhode Island in 1878. He started out in show business in Vaudeville, traveling with his performing father, mother, and sister. Vaudeville is where Cohan learned the nuances of live performing and keeping audiences entertained. He was part of The Four Cohans, the name his family used as their marquee title.

Eventually Cohan made it to Tin Pan Alley as a songwriter, and Broadway as a prolific creator of musicals. "The Man Who Owned Broadway" became a catch phrase for this talented composer during his heyday in New York City. Another name bestowed on him was "The Father of American Musical Comedy". He wrote his own play scripts, music, and lyrics.

The song The Yankee Doodle Boy is from the musical comedy Little Johnny Jones. This was Cohan's first full-length musical, and his family performed in the original production.

Though not an initial success on Broadway, the musical eventually achieved acclaim after some reworking. The song is a lively number with flair. The song line "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy" is sung with unabashed patriotism. The song includes the proudly American chorus:

I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy
A Yankee Doodle, do or die
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam
Born on the Fourth of July

The wit in the lyrics of the song was also manifest in the play itself as seen in the tongue-in-cheek name of a girl from San Francisco, Goldie Gates. Cohan's sense of humor came through in his storyline, music, and verse.

The musical opened on Broadway in New York City at the Liberty Theater, on November 7, 1904. It's the story of a jockey, Johnny Jones, who rides a horse called Yankee Doodle in the English Derby. Cohan based the character of Johnny on Hall of Fame jockey Todd Sloan (1874-1933). Other popular songs to come out of the musical were 'Give My Regards to Broadway' and 'Life's a Funny Proposition'.

Eventually a film biography was developed about George Cohan. Called Yankee Doodle Dandy, this film starred James Cagney as Cohan. Joan Leslie and Walter Huston also had roles in this film. It celebrated the accomplishments of Cohan and his rise to fame.

He wore many hats during his career as a producer, composer, actor, writer, singer, and director. His sheer output as a songwriter was phenomenal. He had over 1,500 of his songs published, and he developed the art of melding drama with music.

Cohan livened up American theater with his tunes and plays, as the art form was heading into a stagnant time. He breathed fresh life into Broadway with his fresh, catchy, lyrics and music. Cohan, who achieved the American dream through sheer talent and hard work, was himself a true Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Customer Review: Menudo Mania!
I am so glad I found this DVD! I am a Menudo fan from way back but grew up in the Midwest. Not much Menudo merchandise was available so at this time in my life I am playing catch up. This DVD IS a must, must have for any Menudo fan. I would even suggest it to fans of Ricky Martin who discovered him after he left the group...especially those who discovered him after the Grammys. If you never had a chance to see this group in concert, buy this DVD! Seeing Ricky Martin at age 14 is like going down memory lane. Its amazing seeing the stage presence and star power he had at such a young age. It become obvious that he was a super star in the making and just the cutest thing on the planet! Its also interesting seeing Robby Rosa (now going by Draco Rosa, singer/songwriter/producer) back then. You could see that he was a talented artist in the making as well. Its also amazing to see how much he has changed since the 80's. This concert DVD is fun and it will put a smile on your face from begining to end!

In many ways DirecTV broadens their range as a company with each venture that they involve the company in, whether it is sports or whether it is this new partnership to make schools more educational for students. This latest team up with Microsoft goes to show that they have become more than just a satellite television company who is in business for entertainment purposes only.

Directv and Microsoft have announced that they have formed a partnership and with this partnership they plan to make some changes in a big way in schools located in Miami and also in Latin America.

Although this is not the first time these two giants have teamed up, they were brought together approximately two years ago when they announced that they would be bringing Directv and Windows Media Center together. While a spec sheet for this product was reportedly shown there has not been a product that has been brought to the market that will be used as an educational aid for students.

This shows the direction that the Directv company is headed with their expanding from bringing integrated sports viewing to their customers to now partnering and heading into giving students a better education, both here and in other countries.

While the main focus will be in Latin America the highly rated satellite television company and the computer giant have begun this venture with a pilot school in Miami with their educational line up that will be available for viewing. Along with the Discovery Channel they will be working with a program called Escuela Plus, this will send educational programs by satellite into these participating schools.

These programs can be viewed live or stored on digital video recorders for students to view at a later time. This is just a part of what is included; there will also be a Microsoft help desk that is set up that will train teachers as well as the students to provide technical support in their computer labs.

This began as a pilot program in January of this year and included twenty-one schools in Latin America and there are plans to expand to other countries such as Chili, Columbia and Peru.

To date there is no firm plans of when this service that will add to the education of children in these other countries will begin. However, there are plans that this service will be used in these other countries.

Randy McCoy has been involved with Direct TV for over 15 years and provides information about Directv features to help consumers decide what they want when they start looking for a satellite provider.

The super talented group Bloodsimple have released their most recent CD on the Reprise recording label, entitled Red Harvest.

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce thats exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it's own.

Red Harvest is a pleasantly varied, mix of 11 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly outstanding musicians. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.

Listen to Red Harvest and I believe youll find there's not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and this is clearly the work of a group of musicians in top form. So much so that if you're even mildly into Rock music you'll enjoy this CD.

While this entire CD is really very good some of my favorites are track 4 - Dead Man Walking, track 6 - Suck It Up, and track 11 - Numina Infuscata

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is Ride With Me. Good stuff!

Red Harvest Release Notes:

Bloodsimple originally released Red Harvest on October 30, 2007 on the Reprise label.

Rubi

Rubi is the only friend of Maribel, who doesn't know that she wants to be her friend only because of her money. Hector proposes to Maribel and she accepts. When Rubi finds out that Alejandro isn't rich as she thought, she decides to break up with him and do everything in order to marry rich Hector, and finally get the life she always dreamed of.
Customer Review: The edition is good, but the music is so boring.
The soap opera Rubi started so good, it was so quickly that in every episode you can see something exciting, unfortunately, with the huge succes of the soap opera Televisa ordered more episodes and there's when we had the problem, When we start to see the beginning of the end: the illness of Hector (then alejandro operates him but because of Rubi he let him die accidentaly). Instead of that, magically Hector gets healed, he gets a lover (Yadhira Carrillo), Rubi meet the Count (Manuel Landeta) and Alejandro have a lot of trouble in the hospital because of some fraudulent things. That part of the story is not as cool as the first episodes, they cut A LOT of secondary characters that actually their story wasn't interesting. That's why i think is a very good edition.... EXCEPT: For the music, the main theme (La descarada) was so goood, this new one is pathetic, and the score was also incredible, but especially the song from the dramatic moments. (In the special episode you can hear it in some of the dramatic moments, for example Sonia's death, when Rubi runs to the beach with her wedding dress, when Maribel watch Rubi at the airport with Hector, etc, etc. Instead of that good song they use a very boring theme, it doesn't transmitt the same emotion and tension. Hope we can see a new version of the dvd but with the real music and with more scenes and extras. By the way the extras are very cool, the finale of the original series in black and white, the special of rubi's niece, the press conference of Rubi, the only missed the original trailers (THEY'RE SO COOL, check them out on youtube)
Customer Review: rubi 2
i'm wondering if they ever going to do part 2 where her neice is twice as free spirited and dangerous lol

Music is characterized and influenced by the prevailing times. War and history bring about changes in the style and form of music. Western influence is certain with pop, jazz and also indicates a change in dance forms. Percussion, string and wind form the chief divisions in instrumental songs. Bells, cymbals, chimes and Triangle are some of the percussion instruments. String instruments are the sounds produced by vibrating strings like the guitar, sitar, violin and cello.. The wind instruments are in the brass and wood category. The flute, trumpet and the cornett come under this category.

Changes in Music and instrumental songs were seen in the Victorian era, Romantic period, Baroque influence, the world wars and to the much recent fusion music which is an amalgamation of many trends. Acoustics are of more importance in instrumental songs and the technology is much advanced to also create a great impact without lyrics in jazz, pop and reggae styles. Instrumental music in the Japanese contemporary styles would refer to ninai Daiko drums, gongs, cymbals and the table zither. The short reed instrument known as the hichriki and the koma bue is a form of gaku biwa type of music. The instrumental music of Nohgaku form is called the Hayashi where playing the bamboo flute is characteristic. The three drums are also played alongwith like the taiko, tsuzumi and o-tsuzumi.

Most songs in lyrics of Indian films are turned to background scores when it comes from the same production house. There is a certain familiarity that is common in the rhythm in contemporary music with the tabla, violin, sitar and also playing the flute. Maestros in contemporary Indian instrumental songs have made it big in the international acclaim. Contemporary and pure Indian music is captured in devotional Carnatic base and also in the Hindustani recitals. The impact of the instrumental songs is much enjoyed with assorted contemporary songs of the classical variety.

Instrumental music with its wind and string instruments makes a soothing melody.

Instrumental music is also a great stress reliever and can be used in long drives and also while at work. Babies are lulled to sleep easy by listening to instrumental songs. Chants infused with instrumental songs invigorate the mind and is perfect for meditation. There are contemporary Christmas songs, folk music and classical variety.

You can now download movie songs including instrumental songs.

The ironic thing about the situation is the engineer admits now that he did nothing different on that bass sound than he had on the numerous other records he had done. Of course, no one cared much about the bass sound on the other records. It turns out that the only change in the equation was the song and the player. The engineer said that this one particular bass player just sounds that damn good. He has magic hands and no one else comes close.

This takes me to my review of the Sansamp Bass DI. I bought this pedal about the same time I bought my first microphone, so I've had it for years and years. Before I get into it's tone, I must say that bass is something that totally eludes me. Maybe it's just my guitar player instinct, but I never seam to record a bass sound that impresses me all that much. I'm not sure what the problem is, but more than likely the answer to my question was in the first two paragraphs of this article.

I wanted to blame my recording gear such as the Sansamp Bass DI for me not achieving a bass sound that I really liked. However, I'm starting to think that this is not the case. I read the forums where the big dogs hang out. Someone once asked about the Sansamp Bass DI. I was amazed at how many people truly loved it. I'm talking about engineers who had 20 platinum records on their wall. These guys usually refute anything that's not $3,000 but it seamed that no one had anything negative to say about the Sansamp Bass DI. Impressive.

So I sat down one day to play with my Sansamp. To be honest, I never played with the knobs too much on this pedal. I guess it's a little ridiculous, but I just haven't learned what truly sounds good on a bass. I think the biggest problem with my bass sounds (besides the variety of bass players) has been the quality of the basses. Almost every bass that I record with a DI has this over the top, unusable low end that just sounds like crap. While a few bass sounds do make the subs in the car go to town, I find that most of the time, the bass sound is up above the subwoofer level. It's in the low mids region.

I've been experimenting with knocking out a ton of the lows with the Sansamp and I'm getting closer to what I'm looking for. The tone controls on the Sansamp really do seam to do something cool. They do offer a lot of flexibility. I find it easier in my brain to twist a few knobs on a pedal to extreme settings ( if necessary) than I do using a parametric eq plugin.

So for me, I can't give the Sansamp a tremendous review. Honestly, I can't give a review at all right now. I've not hit the bass sound that I'm looking for, but I'm going to keep trying until I find it. I'm not sure that the Sansamp is the cause or the blame for the this.

With that being said, the best bass sound I've ever gotten was done with a very good bass player with a very good bass. We ran him straight into a Vintech 1272 preamp and it did sound excellent. For whatever reason the Vintech preamp did sound much better than the Presonus M80 I was using. The difference was night and day. It's very possible that the preamp you use the Sansamp DI with could make a huge difference in tone. I think the big engineers like it because it has all the knobs right there so they can fool with them as they choose.
