Internet radio is booming, providing a way for listeners to enjoy just about any genre of music that strikes their fancy or matches their personal tastes. Internet radio would seem to be especially well suited for the high-tech beats associated with today's club and rave scenes.

Indeed, club (or dance) audio streams can be found in abundance on the Web. One of the best sites for sampling and enjoying this "trance-out" music in all its manifestations is Ombilikal.org, home of Ombilikal Radio. Ombilikal Radio broadcasts a steady stream of drum 'n' bass, jungle, electro (or electronica), breakbeat, hip hop, dub, ragga, roots, nujazz and downtempo music.

I'm familiar with some of these genres and subgenres, but others leave me scratching my head. As I definitely need to bring myself up to speed on what's trendy in the clubs these days, I can't think of a better way to do that than listening to Ombilikal.

The Ombilikal Web site has an appropriate industrial look to it. It also offers more than just streaming radio. There are forum areas, news and review sections, an events calendar and more--all of it oriented to club-type music.

One drawback to the Ombilikal Web site--at least for us English speakers--is the fact that its native language is French. Its creators have thoughtfully provided instant-translation buttons so non-French speakers can re-render its pages in English, Spanish, German or Italian. The results, though, are pretty rough. For example, here is the "English" version of an announcement of an upcoming event:

Indeed, has the invitation of the Festival Osheaga, Montreal Eclectique Groove takes possession of a scene external in full heart of the Park Jean Drapeau. Beginning of the afternoon until the tombee of the night, within a framework favourable with the relaxation - between lakes and success of greenery - this go from now on impossible to circumvent invites each one has a weekend rich in musical discoveries.

Oh, well, the main draw of Ombilikal is the audio stream, and for that you don't really need a translation--especially when you can sit or lie back and just let yourself trance out to the insistent electronic beat.

Stefan Smith is a radio and music junkie who writes on these and other subjects for the Solid Gold Info Writers Consortium. Recently, he has written an extensive review of new software that anyone can use to capture music audio streams from Internet radio broadcasts and break them up into individual mp3 song files--a legal way to download virtually free music. Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine - Evolution

Customer Review: Lot of music for the money!
Gloria arrived on the music video scene in the mid eighties. You will see some videos from that era. What was played on MTV or VH1 was that `cat video,' "Bad Boys". Even way back then, the cat costumes and makeup are very well-done. "Dr. Beat" is a goofy, conglomeration of people in a hospital setting. There are some concert stage videos "Betcha Say That" and "Words Get In the Way." Early music videos required color and dance to attract the attention of viewers and "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" fits that category as well as "Conga" and "Get On Your Feet", and "1-2-3." A superb balladeer with a sultry voice, you will see videos "Can't Stay Away from You." Although I am not a "Gloria fan", this collection is good because it is strictly music, no interview, no extra non-music footage. I like a collection with JUST MUSIC! For the people who love Gloria, you will see the English and Spanish versions "Oye Mi Canto" "Don't Wanna Lose You", and "Anything for You" and "Here We Are." If you are new to Gloria or love Gloria's music, this a great collection. It will introduce you to her evolution in music....Mzrizz
Customer Review: A must have for any Gloria fan or pop fan.
Very good collection of her early hits with Miami Sound Machine. It covers her songs from 1984(Dr. Beat) to 1989(Here We Are). My favorite Estefan song is on this video,(Can't Stay Away From You).

Dance has been an important part of rituals, celebrations and entertainment since before the birth of human civilisation. In the beginning, before we had written language to record things, the purpose of dance was often to tell stories and to pass them down to future generations.

The story of dancing in Cuba

In Cuba, as in ancient times, dance tells its own story. The passion and energy of Cuban dance reveals the strength and conviction of the Cuban people, determined to enjoy life despite 'la lucha' (the struggle) of living in a strictly regulated country where the average monthly wage comes in at around 400 pesos - less than 10.

The richness of Cuban music and dancing also tells the story of Cuba's melting pot of cultures. From the high-stepping flamenco brought by the Spanish settlers in the 15th century to the frenzied tribal dances of the West African slaves, dancing is in the blood of the Cuban people.

From the teenage girl in denim shorts to the cigar-seller on the street corner, Cubans are given to break into spontaneous dance steps. Furthermore, the people dancing on the streets of Havana are likely to be just as good as the professionals, because in Cuba dancing is simply a way of life.

The variety of Cuban dances

Cuba boasts a huge range of dances including classical ballet, contemporary, flamenco and folk dancing. But it is the partnered routines that appeared in Havana dancehalls between the 1920s and the 1950s - Salsa, rumba, mambo and cha-cha-cha - that can be seen in every Cuban bar, club and street. Of these, Salsa is the most popular dance internationally.

Since the name 'Salsa' (it's Spanish for 'sauce') was coined, Salsa dancing has exploded in popularity in Latin America and across the world. Salsa dancing classes are now hugely popular but to really get into the swing of it a Salsa holiday in Cuba itself is a must.

Tips for Cuban Salsa dancing

If you do take yourself on a Cuban holiday, you'll have the unique experience of watching Cubans Salsa dancing. It sometimes appears that by some genetic aberration they have been born with super flexible joints, defying physics to carry out all the complex manoeuvres they have integrated into the dancing. Their remarkable twisting body movements and natural sense of rhythm will dazzle you.

If you have the right technique, Cuban Salsa is easier to learn than many other forms of dance. The basic footwork is a fairly simple walking motion, pausing every fourth beat, and there are some six basic steps you can follow to make sure you're on the right tracks.

1 Relax

To dance Cuban Salsa well it is important not to rush, but to relax into the steps. Movements should be precise and deliberate in addition to being flowing and smooth.

2 Walk with purpose

Salsa dancing involves a continual circular motion. Couples walk around each other with an imaginary axis between them. This makes turns look smooth and effortless. Walking gives time to untangle your arms after each turn.

3 Have confidence in your lead

The leader (usually the man) should have constant tension in his arms, while his hands guide his Salsa dancing partner around the floor. There is no need to clamp onto each other's hands, only to use the right amount of tension to provide a leading signal.

4 Be flexible when following

In order to follow well, ladies should try to match the tension of their partner. The exception to this is when arms need to be relaxed and flexible to complete arm-twisting Salsa moves without injury!

5 Keep balanced when you spin

The key to all the spectacular spins in Salsa is not to lose your balance. One way to do it is by spotting while you spin - focussing on one spot at each turn - an age-old dance technique.

6 Use your body

In Salsa dancing, ladies should make use of their body and be sensual, playful and creative. This can involve some creative arm movements, going with what feels right and basically showing off a bit. Enjoy!

When downloading or looking for music, it's easy to find a site that will download songs and movies, but unfortunately not all of them have the selection you want. You can just point and click to get whatever you want, and not worry if something is in, and not worry about individual costs. Some companies let you download individual songs, but the cost and selection is annoying, or on the other hand, pay a flat fee, but never be able to keep the songs, and once again their selection is a bit of a pain.

There are a couple of steps that you need to take to make sure that you have an easy experience. Make sure you have the room on your hard drive for the movies and the music. A big complaint with the normal download sites are that lack of selection, and your media player has a large problem with the navigation, and it can be hard to find everything. You won't have to worry about that again, find your music, listen to whatever you'd like. In your folders, make sure that you create separate names and separate folders so managing your music and movies would be a lot easier. Find your movies and your TV shows as well, with the same ease as the music.

The navigation is very simple, and you shouldn't have a problem with it at all. It's all broken down, and is very user friendly. Enjoy the new interface, and enjoy the availability of the new music, and the classics.

Customer Review: SAXOLOCO put on your dancin 'shoes
Im far from a Kenny G fan, but another late night comin home from a ballgame , another 6 innings at 3rd base gig, tired and on an adrenaline journey I had to wait 30 minutes, parked in my Metro Atlanta driveway! why?, this song reached out over WJZC and grabbed me by the collar sayin..."Hold on mon!! dis is a gateway tune!!! find out who this is, although Kenny's distinctive soprano sax shouldve alerted me. Gateway indeed, up temp and pleasantly surprising moving me from that post game mood into a grab my babe, put on my dancin shoes, and Brasilia, here we come!!! I could care less about the criticisms, the minutia or esoterica, by other reviewers of more "refined" jazz tastes.... these songs, individually, or collectively made me feel good, perhaps its cause my babe/lady/ wife is lightly latin and these songs got me ready to move n groove... SAXOLOCO was the door opener for a pleasently refreshing, mood enhancing experience for me/us.... Hey isnt dat what de moosic spose to do bro!!!! garmankirk
Customer Review: GREAT CD
I bought this CD for my parents who love to ballroom dance. THEY LOVED THIS CD!!!!!!

Freddie Hubbard has released him most recent album entitled Sky Dive.

Sky Dive will grab your attention right from the very first note with Povo and wont let go until the very last note of the very last song Naturally, which by the way is another great track.

Sky Dive has a nicely varied, mix of 6 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly outstanding artist. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. Theyre all here.

Overall Sky Dive is an outstanding release. Quite possibly Freddie Hubbard's best to date. Really sensational from beginning to end. If you're even mildly into Jazz music you'll enjoy this album.

While this entire album is really very good some of my favorites are track 2 - In A Mist, track 6 - Naturally, and track 5 - Sky Dive

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Povo. Outstanding!

To anyone who did not grow up in the U.S. states of North or South Carolina, or perhaps Virginia or Georgia, Carolina beach music takes some explaining.

Even a southerner such as I, growing up in Alabama, did not realize that there was something called beach music that had little resemblance to, or connection with, the California sound of the Beach Boys or Jan and Dean.

Carolina beach music isn't about surfing or drag racing. It's about dancing at the pavilion in Myrtle Beach, shagging on the sand with your best girl, holding hands and watching the moon rise over Atlantic breakers as the harmonies of The Drifters, the Embers or the Tams drift over the dunes.

Now right now I must stop and explain to my English readers--that is, the possibly shocked citizens and residents of the United Kingdom--that "shagging" as used here does not mean what it you think it does. Here, the shag is the dance that you do to beach music. Shagging means to do the shag.

Carolina beach music goes back to the 1950s. The premier exponent of the style at that time was The Drifters. I've long known and liked the music of The Drifters--"Up On the Roof" is one of my all-time favorite songs--but I just considered it to be rock 'n' roll or perhaps r&b. It took moving to North Carolina to learn that some people considered it part of a separate genre.

Carolina beach music is gentle, sweet, romantic and innocent rock 'n' roll. It celebrates stealing kisses in the back row of the movie theater and couples sharing a blanket in the shade of the boardwalk.

It's no wonder that today, Myrtle Beach has clubs and entire theaters that exist just to showcase the top beach music acts, and that they do a booming business. Without doubt, many of the fans who flock there are recapturing a happy, uncomplicated youth spent cruising the strip and shagging (dance shagging) the night away. But Carolina beach music has a broad appeal, and it would not be surprising to see 20- and 30-somethings finding their way through the doors of those clubs, too.

Trouble: Norwegian Live

Super 5 song live EP from the group making inroads into the rock n roll machine. Includes a live version of their US hit 'Yellow'.
Customer Review: Great Live Album
I enjoyed this album as soon as I heard it. It sounds amazing and the tracks are classic! I would recommend this album to any Coldplay fan that loves the sound of a good, clean, live album. Hope you'll take my advice & enjoy!
Customer Review: Definately the best second Coldplay purchase
As with all of the live Coldplay stuff I have heard the renditions of their songs are pretty straightforward; however, as with all live music it has an energy that is only felt when a band is on stage. Chris uses his voice to accent songs bringing the majority of their uniqueness and variation. Audience participation is sparse, but a fun addition when it can be heard. The recording quality on this recording is B+ for a live rock concert. Could stand to be tightened up a little bit, and I don't think the concert went without a clip or two (Shiver is the least amiable of the tracks.) In the end this CD is for Coldplay fans, collectors, or people who just buy too many CD's, such as myself. But I promise that you won't be disappointed with the purchase. This is an excellent live performance and is a fun rediscovery of one of our new favorite bands.

Do you want to learn how to sing or just how to sing better? You may not be aware of it but its likely a case of learning how to sing better for most of us. Its not that absolutely everyone can sing, but most of us can if we take a sensible approach to trying.

There is a wealth of information available on the internet offering lessons and scales and claiming to reveal the Five least known Singing Secrets. Well heres something to ponder, there are no secrets. The ability to be a good singer is nothing more than learning how to listen to yourself, being able to correct you pitch if its off, breathing for a continuous supply of breath, and muscle control in your throat and body to produce the best tones, not to mention, tons of practice. Proper practice that is, not practicing mistakes.

Singing lessons will certainly help guide you to being able to recognize how all of these things go together but the reality is that you can quite likely do it yourself with only a little help.

Have you ever seen advertising that claims you can increase your range by an octave? That to me is a very big claim. Personally I would have to see it to believe it. Im not saying that its impossible but its not as possible as some would have you believe. The only real way to increase your range is to practice properly, without hurting yourself, and building your range up over a period of time. Thats the only way to do it safely and still keep a rich tone about your voice. My sense is that anything else would be falsetto singing and in my world, theres no real room for that.

This practice is where scales and such come in handy. You sing ascending scales and descending scales in a variety of phonetic phrases. Its a controlled environment and you can make improvements in your range for sure, but it will take time if you do it properly. Naturally the more you practice, the greater your improvement.

You may need to consider that range is not the be all and end all of being a great singer. When you listen to your favorite songs it becomes apparent that at least most of the song stick to a certain range and doesnt go too much higher or lower than that. Most of those notes are quite reachable by the average human so dont kill yourself trying to do something super-human when it comes to increasing range.

Instead of range, worry about pitch. It really doesnt matter how high or low you can sing if you cant hit the right notes in between. Stick to the easy stuff you know you can do and work up from there. Use your ears. If you sound like youre off, correct it and dont be shy about it. Youll be surprised at how quickly you stop singing wrong notes. Your ears are the greatest aid you have to being a great singer, you should learn how to use them first, then decide if you need lessons.
