I hated my guitar lessons-really!

I had to go to my dang lessons every week, and it seemed that if I didn't know my scales right or have the right amount of perfection each time, my guitar instructor would be upset at me.

But, I needed to discover how to play songs!

I didn't know that the scales were really a part of that- I felt like Karate Kid, doing all those chores. The only difference was, my guitar instructor never really explained that these melodic scales would kick open many doors- I just felt eternal frustration and disappointment inside.

I wasn't getting to the meat- I was chewing on mush. bring in on the rock, I thought!

The good news is-

Jennifer Lopez Hit Single

Jennifer Lopez's latest dance hit was at number one this week on Billboards.com dance charts. The song, Do it Well, is part of her latest album, "Brave". "Brave" is Jennifer's 6th studio album in her music career, and her second release this year.

The song was written and produced by Ryan Teddler. David LaChepelle, who is renowned for his "out of the box" concepts and ideas, produced the music video. The video starts with Jennifer getting a SOS message from a little boy. Jennifer then pounds her way into a club, beats up a couple of random people and saves the boy. She manages to do all of this in a short trench coat and still has time for a few dance routines in between, which she does in a red dress and heels.

Although the song has been a big hit and has stayed on the Billboard.com charts for 6 weeks, the music video hasn't been as much of a success. In an interview, Jennifer tells of David's "magical work" by combining colour, art and an underground vibe into the video. She reports that David said, "People want to see her dance," so the video was created as a "high energy dance song."

Her previous album, released earlier this year, "Como Ama Un Mujer" has broken the record for the highest selling Spanish album. Since it's release in March, it has sold over 800,000 copies. The album has been nominated for the American Music Awards (AMA) in the category, Favourite Latin Artist.

This isn't her first time at the AMA. In 2003 she won the music award for Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist. But singing isn't the only thing that this multi-talented artist does. She still manages to fit in her acting career, song writing, clothing line and her fragrance: J-LO. According to Forbes, Jennifer Lopez is the richest Latin American in Hollywood.

This Latino Queen has taken Hollywood by storm since the beginning of her career in the 90s. She's managed to cover a variety of industries and combine them all into one. During her fame, she has been married several times, her latest husband being her long-time friend, Marc Anthony.

Currently they are on tour together, to promote her album. With two albums out in one year, awards piling up, a movie being planned and touring, it seems there is no stopping her. Who knows, she might be able to fit in a few more dance routines in a red dress and heels before the year is done.

10 Tips for the Ultimate Wedding Reception

The experts at California DJs know all the secret elements - and the not-so-secret ones too all to help you plan the ultimate wedding reception that is perfectly you! Use these 10 essential elements to create the perfect day for you and your guests.

1. Generously Invite

Writing the guest list what a challenge! How do you agree on whom to invite and still stay within your budget? Heres the bottom line. You are preparing for the most magical day of your life and in the end only one thing will matter the public declaration of your love and commitment and each and every person there to witness it.

We encourage you to invite every person you love. Your guests are the focal point of this very special day. Cut back on the cost of the dinner, limit the hours of the open bar, but dont cross off names. As you fondly remember your wedding day, you will not remember the per-person cost. You will remember glowing faces of the people celebrating your union the buzz at the reception the clink of toasting glasses throughout the room congratulating your marriage! The extra veggie platter, shrimp apps, and extravagant centerpiece wont be the center of attention the people will be.

2. Designate Your Celebratory Space

Before you plan your reception know exactly where you want people to mix and mingle. Fantastic receptions brim with family and friends who feel comfortable, meet, talk, dance, and become acquainted with one another. Dont let guests leave early, slip away to check out the impressive surroundings of your location, or run outside for a smoke and then never come back to join the party. Define the space with ribbons or closed doors. Dont be afraid to close off certain areas or rooms. The liveliest receptions have a common area where guests are mingling and activities are taking place. A designated space ensures guests catch and capture each wonderful moment as it unfolds.

3. Special Activities Just For The Joy Of It

Remember, 80% of your guests wont know each other. The greatest wedding memories are the new friendships and extended family bonds created at your wedding. Use interactive games, specialty dances, bold announcements, or fun activities during the reception to break the ice and help people get to know one other. Suddenly youll see people laughing and enjoying themselves instead of feeling shy or retreating on the sidelines.

4. Let Go, Have Fun & Toss Your Worries Aside

The bride sets the stage and the tone for reception party. This is the time and place for all brides to let go, have fun, and toss any last minute worries aside. Let the months of planning and masterful professionals youve selected take over and do what they do best. You only have one job - to be the most radiant and loveliest guest of honor. Show up and celebrate! If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, your guests will sense it and feel uncomfortable too. You have the power and pleasure to give your guests permission to let loose and have a great time!

5. Dance Your Little Heart Out

One saucy shoe must be the first to step out on the dance floor. Guests will be looking to you for permission and timing to dance. As soon as you get up and dance, theyll let loose and do a little rumba too! People are typically shy and most guests are very careful not to offend or overstep their boundaries. Plan to play music you love so you are comfortable. Your physical cues can create a safe space for them to dance, toe-tap, celebrate, toast, and party. Watch friends and family get up and dance, thoroughly enjoy themselves, then talk about what a fabulous reception it was in the morning.

6. Embellish, Adorn, and Decorate

The dcor sets the mood at the reception. Simple dcor is not only best, it is marvelously elegant. Elegant doesnt have to mean expensive. Think sentimental instead of expensive and youll amaze yourself with the brilliant ideas that come to mind. Since flowers are typically 15% of the overall wedding budget, you can save money by intermingling silk flowers. Want a discount, ask for one! Many places give quantity and wedding discounts. Use your imagination and let your creativity take over.

7. Invite Groups of People That Know Each Other

No doubt your guests will be coming from many different walks of life - but the more people you bring together with common bonds - the more alive the reception will be. People feel safest when they are surrounded by people and situations that are familiar to them. Watch the twinkle in the eyes of your family members sparkle as they greet familiar faces from way back when. Notice work friends create a tribe of sorts and fill up the dance floor. Birds of a feather flock together. Invite groups of people that know each other and see a warm, wonderful, and happy vibe wash over the reception.

8. Serve Thirst Quenching Libations

Every reception should have beer, wine, or alcoholic beverages available. Hesitant??? Think again. Cocktails loosen people up and lessen inhibitions. Even people who do not drink, often make exceptions at weddings. Your wedding is a once in a lifetime event and rules can and will be broken. Keep the cost down. Serve beer on tap, inexpensive bottles of wine (Charles Shaw for $1.99/bottle), or have a cash only bar with free soft drinks and water. All the fun at a fraction of the cost.

9. Early Notice and Save The Date Announcements

Your invitees wont want to miss your big day, but with very busy schedules advance notice is not a luxury its required. Invite people well in advance. 30% of guests that dont show decline because they didnt get enough advance notice. Send an electronic save the date message via email or try a unique and money saving save the date photo postcard for as little as $.65 a card including postage. Avoid disappointing Will Not Attends that arrive late in the mail or worse yet embarrassing Yes response cards from people who dont show up. As rude as this is, people hate to say no. Giving people advance notice a minimum of 3 weeks - will minimize disappointment and embarrassment and bring all your favorite people together.

10. Use The One Hour Gathering Rule

Party "kick-off" starts one hour after the official start time. Many people will show up late so use the one hour gathering rule to account for lateness and all the other influences out of your control traffic, distance, directions, babysitters, weather, and other unknowns. Begin with an intimate one-hour cocktail or champagne reception to entertain before the party officially starts. Play inviting music and host an open bar if you choose. Because most guests will arrive late, serve food or appetizers toward the end of the gathering hour. This will give the effect of a perfectly planned and welcoming entrance.

Bonus Tip: Plan for a Grand Entrance Showcasing You!

We call it the dazzling ta-da entrance! This is where it all comes together. You arrive relaxed and ready to have fun. Your mood is joyful and sets the tone for an utterly enjoyable reception. Your guests havent waited longer than one hour. Youve planned ahead with the photographer and the photos are archived in the camera forever. Now before your big entrance, remember all the love you feel inside and visualize the joy inside of you sweeping guests off their feet.

Hear the melody of your favorite music fill the room and feel the anticipation of the guests expecting your arrival. Let every bit of warmth, happiness, and radiance come through as you flitter into the room. Your grand entrance will set the tone and prepare your guests for one of the most talked about wedding receptions of the year. Create ambiance and fun by lining the walkway with fresh petals, a bubble machine, or doing something personal, silly, or heartwarming that is uniquely you.

Then, let the DJ do what he does best. Youve hired the best and planned well in advance. Let your vision come together as the reality of this marvelous day unfolds. Hear each and every guest say,

It was the best time since we can remember! Andrea Wolf

MP3 Downloads

MP3 is a popular encoding and compression format for digital audio. The term MP3 is an acronym for MPEG-1 Layer 3. Using the MP3 format, larger digital audio files can be shrunk to a fraction of their size, losing a little of the sound quality in the process. Compared to the reduction in file size and ease of download, the reduction in quality is negligible and usually not very noticeable.

MP3 downloads are becoming hugely popular these days, because they allow several songs or pieces of audio to be stored without occupying a large amount of storage space.

MP3 files can be played either on a computer, using software applications such as Winamp or Windows media player, or they can be played on specialized MP3 players such as the Apple IPod. MP3 audio files may be played on recently manufactured DVD Players and CD players.

MP3 files are usually downloaded from websites on the Internet. Once downloaded, MP3 files can also be copied to compact discs or to MP3 players, using a data transfer cable.

MP3 files of popular music are available for download for as low as $1. Websites such as the ITunes online music store, operated by Apple, are very popular and boast of a huge library of music that can be purchased online. Even though MP3 files can be downloaded from the Internet for free, downloading copyrighted music without permission is illegal and can be termed piracy.

MP3 downloads help a person to build a music library. MP3 downloads also helps upcoming and unknown artists promote their music cost effectively. All they need to do is to post their music online for free downloads and they can be sure of reaching a large audience.

MP3 Downloads provides detailed information on MP3 Downloads, Free MP3 Downloads, MP3 Download Software, MP3 Download Sites and more. MP3 Downloads is affiliated with CD Covers.

Ballroom Basics - How to Start Ballroom Dancing

Has "Dancing with the Stars," left your feet in a frenzy, anxiously awaiting their debut on the dance floor? As the popularity of ABC's dance floor reality show left thinking about taking the floor yourself? If so, then ballroom dancing is definitely an activity you should look into. Ballroom dancing is great for a variety of ages and is an excellent way to stay in shape while learning a fabulous art form. You will also find that ballroom dancing will socially excite you as you spend time with likeminded individuals who are just as eager to Rumba as you are. Grab a pair of dancing shoes and follow these great tips to dance your way to the stars.

  • Do your research:

Ballroom dancing is a very wide term used to refer to the many styles of dance that take place with a partner on a dance floor. There are basic dance styles that you may be familiar with, such as that Cha Cha, Salsa, and the Tango. There are also several styles of ballroom dancing that you may not be familiar with like the Bolero, the Quickstep, and the Paso Doble. Since ballroom dancing is heavily influenced by nationality, you will want to do some research to find out what style dance you would like to pursue. There are programs that offer instruction in the ballroom basics, but there are also programs that are based on the customs of different nationalities. The internet and the library will be your greatest tools when it comes to researching ballroom dancing. A simple search for the word "ballroom dancing" or "Latin Ballroom Dancing" will yield hundred of results. Read articles and watch videos to become familiar with various styles.

  • Decide What Type of Instruction to Take:

Ballroom dance is typically offered in group sessions or private lessons. It's important to decide what format you would prefer before you start calling various studios. If you're interested in ballroom dancing as a fun way to learn to dance techniques while interacting with other people, a group lesson is probably your best bet.

    Group Lessons:

    • Offer social interaction and a way to meet people.
    • Offer the chance to learn and experiment with several styles of ballroom dancing.
    • Are often less intensive lending it's self to those who are just looking to have fun.

    Private Lesson:

    • Offer the chance to hone in and work on specific dance moves or styles.
    • Allow you to choose the pace.
    • Great for couples or individuals who are looking to choreograph a dance for a wedding or other function.

  • Find Classes in Your Area:

Grab a phone book or log onto the internet yellow pages and start searching for dance lessons in your area. Keep a pen and paper handy to write down the name and number of the establishment. If you're having trouble locating classes by searching solely for ballroom dance, expand your search to include various styles of dance with the hopes that these places either offer ballroom dancing or can point you in the right direction.

Since ballroom dancing is something that can be considered and ethnic tradition you may be able to find classes that are offered in cultural centers or various places of ethnic worship. Once you have a few places on your list, start making phone calls. Be sure to write down any information they provide you with like schedules or prices.

  • Visit Studios:

If it's possible, make it a point to visit various dance studios> Visiting these places will help you decide:

    1. If you are comfortable in that dance studio.
    2. If the instructor or teacher is credible.
    3. What style dance, if any, the group focuses on.
    4. What age group, if any, is dominant in the group.
    5. The intensity level of the class fits your criteria.

  • Sign Up for a Class:

The next step in learning to ballroom dance is to sign up for a class. Once you've decided on a studio or class that works best for you, you will need to sign up. Be sure to find out when the classes close and what the starting date is. You will also want to know when the studio expects your payment and what you need in order to participate in class. For example, you may very well need to invest in ballroom dance shoes and some free flowing dance attire.

Find all your ballroom dancing needs at Just for Kix. Just for Kix is your one stop shop for dance wear. Just for Kix offers quality cheerwear and dancewear at affordable prices.

Indie Labels Vs Major Record Companies

The music industry has been bemoaning its fate, as the costs of promoting artists and their songs soar while sales slump. It seems that it's facing a slow, self-inflicted implosion. It blames its demise on the Internet and the easy access that fans have to music that has yet to be released for public consumption. Independent record labels, on the other hand, are reveling in the public attention that the Internet brings to their artists. According to independent record labels, business is booming and prospects have never looked better.

An expense that major record companies have that Indie labels have been clever enough to avoid is playtime on commercial radio stations. Major labels have to pay from $400,000 up, in order to get one song on air. Indie labels tend not to even approach large commercial stations as they know that they can't afford all the promotion costs that are included in the deal. They prefer to work with college and public radio stations that are usually more receptive to music that is not mainstream and conformist.

Another marketing strategy that has helped to increase album sales for indie labels is that they target consumers who are still willing to pay for music. This group consists mostly of grown-ups who feel that they have to pay for what they own and don't have a "if I can get it for free I will" attitude. Adults have a greater sense of ethical responsibility and a respect for hard work, and are less likely to download music for free.

Many artists are adopting a more extreme independent approach by forming their own record labels. This allows them to have complete creative control over the record making process and is the ultimate in self-expression for any indie artist.

Most artists think that signing with a major label will be their ticket to the big time and that the money will come rolling in. In fact, artists have to sell about 1 million albums before they start seeing their share of the profits, as their studio time and all of the "perks" of the business, such as the limo rides, are charged against their royalties. Royalties might also be heavily weighted in favour of the label. Many artists are surprised to find that they earn only $1 per disc sold.

Compare that with an indie label, which with careful planning and budgeting, is able to keep marketing and overhead expenses within a manageable range. With expenses down, the profit margin is larger. They also have fairer profit sharing deals, often splitting profits equally between the label and the artist. When it comes to selling discs, indie artists can sell discs at a concert and make a decent profit from sales numbering in the thousands only.

One of the biggest and perhaps most distinguishing differences between indie and major labels is that indie labels let artists keep the rights to their work. Large labels have the option of not releasing any music an artist has recorded, and all the while the artist remains bound to them by contract and can't sign up with any other label. The artist is taken out of the public eye and effectively has his or her career terminated at the whim of the label.

Many experts involved in the music industry have predicted that major record labels are going the way of the dinosaur. They attribute this mainly to the large labels' inability to read and react to activity in the music market. Large labels create such huge promotional vehicles around their artists that it takes them too long to react to a drop in record sales, and change their marketing strategy. Conversely, if an artist's sales pick up after a slump, it takes the label too long to get a large promotional and marketing strategy off the ground. Indie labels, on the other hand, are ideally placed to take advantage of market movements, as they are small and can move quickly to capitalise on opportunities or invest in some damage control.

It's been said that big labels have forgotten what's important in the music industry, that the artists are the resource to be treasured and not the songs. Indie music and, as a product, indie labels have never forgotten this fact. Artists have always been recognised as respected contributors to the music industry. They have always been fairly counted into whatever profits there may have been. Indie labels do their best to adhere to the principles and culture upon which the indie scene has been built. By doing this, they have managed to achieve comparatively more success than the big boys in the industry. This must be a big blow to those who believe that non-conformists will never be successful in life.

Introduction to Indian Classical Music 101

The system of Indian classical music known as Raga Sangeet can be traced back nearly two thousand years to its origin in the Vedic hymns of the Hindu temples. Unlike Western classical music which has written scores, an Indian classical performance is based on improvisation, and anywhere from 10% to 90% of the performance could be extempore, depending on the creative imagination of the artist. The music is rendered orally to the disciple by his guru, popularly known as guru-shishya (teacher-student) parampara (tradition).

The very heart of Indian music is the raga, the melodic form upon which the artist improvises his performance. A raga is a scientific, precise, subtle and aesthetic melodic form with its own ascending and descending movement consisting of either a full seven-note octave or a series of six or five notes.

Every raga is characterized by its own particular mood. The acknowledged order of these nine sentiments, or emotions, is as follows: romantic and erotic, humorous, pathetic, anger, heroic, fearful, disgust, amazement and peaceful. Each raga, in addition to being associated with a particular mood, is also closely connected to a particular time of day or a season of the year. Thus through the rich melodies and rhythm of Indian music, every human emotion, every subtle feeling in man and nature, can be musically expressed and experienced.

In terms of aesthetics, a raga is the projection of the artist's inner spirit: a manifestation of his most profound feelings and sensibilities. The musician breathes life into each raga as he unfolds and expands it so that each note shimmers and pulsates with life and the raga is revealed vibrant and incandescent with beauty.

The tala, or rhythmic cycle of a raga, plays an equally important role in expressing the mood. There is a unique relationship between melody and rhythm. The intricacies depict the complexities and sophistication with which they are woven together. The division in a taal and the stress on the first beat, called sum, are the most important feature. The most exciting moment for a seasoned listener is when both the musicians, after their individual improvisations, come back together on the sum.

Today, Indian classical music is a permanent part of Western culture. Many composers and musicians have been influenced by our music. The openness, will to learn, and sincere enthusiasm of Western audiences are a continuing source of inspiration and delight. Indian music is one of the highest forms of music existing and nourished through its rich cultural heritage.

How To Match The Melody Notes Of Any Song To A Chord In Your Left Hand!

If you've ever wondered how you can know which chords go with which melody notes, I've got good news for you!

It's easier than you might think to learn how to go about matching the melody notes (the tune) of any song to the
appropriate chords. It's really a simple 2-step process, once you understand it, but if you don't know the secret, you can
wonder about it for years. But if you learn it now, you will know it the rest of your life.

Back when I was a teenager learning to play the piano, it used to puzzle me which chords to use with which melody notes:

"I wonder how those top pianists know which chords to use? I mean, they don't always use the C chord to harmonize the
C melody note, or the D chord to harmonize a D in the melody, and so on -- so how do they do it?"

A few years later I had the extremely good fortune to find a teacher in Hollywood by the name of Dave. He was THE
teacher -- he taught many of the recording artists and names you would recognize -- plus a young aspiring piano player
named Duane (me). And he showed me how to go about matching the melody notes of any song to the appropriate chords.

That changed my musical life. I didn't have to wonder any more -- I knew for sure which chords went with which notes,
and when and why.

It's really a simple process once you understand it, and it has to do with knowing just 2 facts:

Fact 1: There are 3 basic chords that will harmonize any note, and that note is a member of all 3 chords;

Fact 2: These 3 chords rotate as the melody moves through the song, so pick the chord that has that melody note in it.

These 3 chords are known as the "primary chords" for a reason: they are the "home boys" for that song. Lots of other
chords can be used in a song, but you can get by with just these 3 "home boy" chords.

Then once you master them, you can widen your scope to "cousin chords" and "neighbor chords" and "color chords" and all kinds of other exciting variations, and then the sky is the limit in terms of improvising and making up your own musical sounds.
